Ive got a 3.4 liter v6 and would like to know what I might gain from porting and polishing the lower intake manifold. Ive done a search on this many times and have read that many people take the lower manifold and simply smooth the runners out with a dremel and a grinding wheel. If anyone would care to elaborate on this I would greatly appreciate it. I plan on possibly doing this this summer when I start working full time. What I had planned to do was go to a junk yard and possibly for a few bucks just getting the whole 3.4 intake system from the heads up and out to the throttle body and toy around with it to see what I could come up with. If anyone has any tips or know what all is involved in removing the intake it would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks that was very informative. Anyone have any more input before this one leaves the front page? Also, can the major head work be done while the head is still bolted to the block. I would like to remove my heads and do the whole thing but for me that would be a little too excessive at this point, I mainly want to do the intake and the intake plenum.

If you port and polish the heads with them still on the car, all of the metal that is ground out will fall into the combustion chamber...BAD IDEA. Only way to do it right would be to remove the heads.

yes, please do not try and grind out the heads with them still attached to the car. very very very very bad idea. plus, you cant begin to port the bowl with them on or with the valves still installed..

Ok well I think instead of just getting an intake at a junk yard ill try to find a whole scrap engine that I can use the heads off of and intake that way I can port it all the way.

Porting heads yourself is a bad idea. If you don't know what you're doing, you could lose more than you gain. And no offense, but since you asked if you can port the heads with them on the car, I'm guessing you're not 100% sure what you're doing.

Well I wasnt looking toward doing anything to the heads, I just wanted to know if there was anything I could do to the Intake manifold. I know what im doing and it was kinda a stupid question to ask but im not planning on doing anything to the heads on my car unless they have to be taken off for some reason or another. I just want to get a little bit better free-flowing intake plenum and manifold, not any head work just intake.

i believe you could take off your upper intake manifold and TB to p&p.

Ya I thought about that but I do know that I need to seafoam my car. Or better yet, at work I have access to a BG intake fogger system which I might try to use first one of these days.
