"SAFE FOR YOUR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: High current for short duration is drawn directly from your battery, not your alternator. Just like your starter motor."

Wouldn't it wear out your battery faster?

If this thing only engages at WOT, and only draws 50 amps, it would put less strain on a battery than many car audio systems. I think the electric supercharger idea itself is underestimated. They don't take power directly from the engine, they produce boost at any RPM level, and they don't require any spool-up. A beefed up version of this could provide 2-3 pounds of boost for a fraction of what a mechanical supercharger or a turbocharger would cost. For simplicity of design, it can't be beat.
I personally tried a smaller homemade version, and it worked well for low to mid rpms, but didn't have the capacity for high rpm demand. This is different, though. It can rull all the way to 6,000rpm, and the 4-6% horsepower increase is measured at the wheels. You might not notice 4-6% at the flywheel, but you will at the wheels. Heck, for a car getting 170hp to the wheels, a 4% increase is 176hp, and a 6% increase is 180hp. I think that's worth it.

I'm not convinced, however, that anyone should pay over 50 or so dollars for one of these. I'm pretty sure that you could take apart a high powered Shop Vac and get the same type of motor and blade. With a little ingenuity, you might even surpass the power of the E-Ram.

          50A * 12V = 600W = 4/5hp.

Not nearly enough power to actually compress air and send it to the intake fast enough.

This has been discussed before, and it is a gimmick. Axial fans cannot compress air and still deliver the cfm needed, it just doesn't work unless you use a jet turbine type design.

Moving air is easy. Compressing it is harder. Yet, E-Ram doesn't claim high boost, just a little. A little extra cool air can do as much as a lot extra hot air. Turbos and superchargers are really pretty inefficient. One of the reasons they make such high boost numbers is because they heat the air, and vice versa. Hot air increases pressure. Pressure makes air hot. E-Ram doesn't heat the air much, though, because it compresses it only a little.

Yes, it's possible to generate the small amount of boost with 4/5 hp, especially if the electric motor revs to 20,000rpm. 1/2 to a full pound or two of boost is very possible. I have to think that it would work quite well with mods such as aftermarket cams, lifters and heads, but that's just me.

you could just use the blower from a boat, cheaper and all you have to do is give it a source of power and put it on a switch and you get a blower at the flick of a switch. i saw that on a kids car at school so i cant take credit for thinking that out.

The video of how it works quite clearly demonstrates that it will in fact net you raw horsepower because it is able to push a Dura-Log across a shop floor. Undisputable proof this belongs on your car.

I'm sure, if for nothing else, the sound of it engaging would make you giggle. But I can laugh for a lot less than 300 bucks.

one time i'll actually agree with Bliggida.

                  seems practical...although still seems expensive.

i was the one selling it in the for sale section. wished i'd of gotten a chance to try it at the track b4 i got rid of it, but i felt a definite difference with it over my stock air box. i kno the guy who i sold it to pretty well, i might ask to borrow it sometime and see if i can get some numbers to finally settle this once and for all. thats right "boy", i'm going to try and get actual facts and not just label ish i don't kno n e thing about.

back in my day when people where serious about HP, the regular board members would have laughed at my joke. now i get people on here that actually think it is worth something. oh how times have changed.

mrbako, blig was not agreeing with the product. blig knows better. it is not practical at all.

[there is a SS and also a cobra in my neighborhood that use this eram] YEAH RIGHT!!!

loser, i will drop my itch with this eram thing for now, but you have to convince yourself that it is CRAP CRAP CRAP. i know you are a little peeved cause its like getting drunk and doing the ugly chick, but its ok. in 2 months from now we will all forget about it.

The E-Ram provided it was powerful enough to push the maximum amount of air your engine can take, if the computer doesn't compensate with more fuel, you'll just run lean. And even before that. You won't make any more power than ambient air induction, it won't compress it so your still stuck a 14.8 (something close to that) atmospheric density. So in other words it won't do any better than a regular ram air setup, that gets a direct flow of fresh air going straight into the carb or throttle body.
