• Magnaflow catback update

Since there have been a couple of posts asking about the Magnaflow catback, thought I'd just start this one to make my observations for all.

Just had it installed this AM on my '02 Camaro and two things really stand out.

1. Sound clips do not do justice to the real thing. You should try to hear it for real beforehand if the sound is part of your decision. Mine sounds much deeper and louder than any clip I've heard. Very noticeable under acceleration, just a rumble (for a six!:^) when cruising at 55 in 5th.

2. Those 3.5" tips are HUGH once you actually see them on a car. I'll borrow a digital camera from work and post photos so you can see. If you want a less obtrusive look then you may want to use other tips.

Personal observation - love them!

Now on to some suspension mods...

Does your exhaust note change in the upper rpm's? I just have the straight through muffler. The smallest one I could find. Sounds burly until about 4000rpm's. Then it gose from a v8 muscle car to a v12 lemans car.

Oh ya, it's a single outlet with a 3" tip.

did you get the 3 inch system (made for an 8) or the 2.5 system...

i want magnaflows!!! and am thinking of the 3 inch system (with a 3 inch hi flow cat and 3 inch cut out)

thanks man, and cant wait for those 3.5" tips

I really haven't had the opportunity to wind it out as I had to get back to work and it's only a short distance with lots of police presence.
The sound does change when I kick it sitting still in neutral and overall it certainly doesn't sound like any V8 I've heard. Typical 6 cylinder sound but better than I expected.

I did get the 2.5" pipes that come with the V6 kit. The guy who installed it said he could have made the 3" system work with a couple of mods since the stock cat has a smaller outlet. Since you plan to change that as well it will probably be easier for you.

Nope, sorry, I took a couple but they didn't come out that well due to overcast skies and ancient digital camera. :( Still working on it, try to get it right tomorrow.

OK, here's a couple of photos of the tips on my Magnaflow catback. I'm kinda getting used to seeing them now so they don't seem quite as big now as when I first saw them. Anyhow...

You should get a Magnaflow cat too. Really brings out the sound!
