• Eliminating baffles and airbox completely

I know there had been some discussion about eliminating or replacing the baffles and airbox, putting a hole in the airbox for a ram air effect, and opening the nostrils in the 98+ birds to take advantage of the cold air.

What I was wondering is if it would offer any improvement to just run some intake tubing (pvc or if anyone has any better ideas) to a conical K&N filter from the engine to right in front of the opened-up nostrils. Seems like a fairly cheap mod that would eliminate most of the things blocking up our intake. Any flaws in my plan I'm not seeing?

Just get a K&N with a whisper lid or the SLP Cold air ram..Any combination of each or all three.

Well see the thing is with the couple of hundred dollars that I would spend doing that I could purchase other performance parts if my idea would end up netting the same results.

Would there be something fundamentally wrong with a straight tube to a filter in front opened nostrils? Any possibilities for power loss in comparison to CAI?

I dont know about the power losses or increases over actully buying the part but,if you want to make your own.More power to ya! :D

Edit-A performance aftermarket lid only costs like $100

make your own smooth lid as well...cut out the fins from inside. many posts on that and some guides as well.

I already smoothed out the fins on my airlid, I'm just thinking of eliminating the whole assembly .

The sensor I think you're talking about is almost directly on the engine, I'd still retain that.
