  • must get rid of rasp

Hey guys, i have a 2001 3.8l camaro with a borla muffler and the slp cenetrmount quadtips. and it's raspy on the top end. and i want to get rid of that. I've heard that putting a dynomax bullet muffler in the straight pipe will tone down the rasp and make it sound deeper... has anybody tried this? any sound clips? will having the bullet muffler and the borla make things really quiet?? the bullet muffler shouldn't cause any restriction so im not worried about that. i'm j/ wondering if anybody has tried this or has an opinion and i would definately like to hear some sound clips... the sound clips i've heard w/ j/ the dynomax bullet muffler are still pretty raspy...so i'm j/ lookin for people who have tried it... thanx guys

Can't really help the rasp, we have a V6. It sounds like you are running a straight I-pipe. Do you have a cat? A cat might help tone things down. The bullets don't sound like they would do much to deaden the sound or rasp...they're relatively free-flowing as far as sound is concerned. This is all theory though, I've yet to run a straight pipe so I dont know how it sounds. Perhaps enlarging the diameter of your piping as well as putting in a more restricitve cat(in terms of sound) would help.

Anyone feel free to add their $0.02? I could be spewing wrong stuff... ;)
Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?

Dynomax bullet in the mid pipe works. I have no sound clip. It is not even a muffler...just a straight fiberglass perf tube. My car does not sound like a 383 barracuda but it does sound deeper and better with the dynomax bullet as well as the magnaflow muffler that came with the 15620.

Summit racing, 12" or 18"...Ihave the 18" about 35 bucks.

This car is still loud when giving it gas past half throttle. It does sound better with the dynomax than without...less rasp.

hey thanx, thats what i was wanting to hear. i have a dynomax bullet muffler in my room but i bought a 2.5" i/o off ebay thinking i'd be able to find reducers but i haven't i j/ thought i would ask to see if anybody else had tried it. i dont have a straight pipe by the way everything from the muffler back is the stock 2 1/4. i thought about bigger pipes n' stuff but i dont want it to be louder if that means the raspiness is gonna be louder, anyways thanx

hey i might start a new post but i was wondering if anybody new where or if i could find a deal to widen my pipe from 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 so that i can put the bullet muffler i already have in? i know exhaust shops can do it but i really dont wanna mess w/them, and i figure it would be a great thing to have around. I'm j/talking about the lip on each side, not the whole pipe or anything. j/ so i can put the muffler in there and weld it up fine.. or maybe enough j/ for clamps...thanx guys

I would just have a muffler shop weld in that bullet.

you can find reducers, they are out there...but...the end collars on cats and mufflers are sized to fit OVER the respective ID piping. In other words...that 2.5 inch bullet will slip over 2.5" ID pipes. Make sure that any reducers you by will fit the bullet. Bring thd bullet with you to a parts store...you will see what I mean.

Without a REAL muffler your car is gonna sound like crap PERIOD! Take it from me, I tried everything to make my LM sound good and it just doesn't. Save yourself some headaches and get a quite cat-back AND an electronic cut-out... then you have the best of both worlds! Not to meantion completely tunable sound with the cut-out!

                      Thanks 1D

yea, the bullet is not a 'muffler'...but it is a high band dampener. High frequenies are much more fragile than low frequencies. the perf tube in the bullet helps to kill some of the high end frequenies in the exhaust. It makes it a little deeper...but mostly it kills high end. A loud car will still be loud by adding a bullet...but it sounds nicer to me to have it on.

if you looking for sound your going to have to get rid of all of your 2 1/4 piping. that will make it sound like a ricer. that will also attribute to the rasp. i suggest getting a 3 in cat and 3 in s-pipe. a bullet wont make it sound deeper, it just smooths/mellows out the sound.
