My cat blows a**.. i have had a 3" catco for under 6 months.. and all it does it set off error codes..
and the o2 sim is not working out for me (i think its high voltage)..
SO! Who has an aftermarket cat that acctualy works without a sim?
give me size and brand..
I was thinking about giving car sounds a try.. has anyone had a good experence with any of there cats?
I still get a code with a sim, in the next couple of days I hope to fix this with a potentiometer in the return line on the post cat o2 sensor since Radio Shack doesn't have the resistor between the one that gives me no o2 signal or low voltage and low cat system efficiency. Only problem though, this thing is a little large, I might go get the smaller ones which can be set to more precise resistances.

I don't think he asked how is everyone's catco working out for them. I think he was looking for some more information on cats. Well AllTheGoodThings, i've been doing extensive research, I have a little more but here's something I found at ls1.com
Random Tech #616806 434 cfm
Car Sound #93009 428 cfm
Car Sound #94009 417 cfm
Walker #15147 391 cfm
Random Tech #616549 355 cfm
Stock LS1 304 cfm
MAC LS1 293 cfm
These are the flow rates for some of the other cats out there. I think catco rates around 350cfm in there. Sure it's a lot better flowing then our stock cat, but i'm still stuck on how poorly it was made. I think the heat shield on it is badly welded, it has a few tacs on it. A rock went through my whole cat like it was tissue paper, and I hear the honeycomb can easily be destroyed in the catcos. But anywho, since nobody ever listens to me. I'd imagine carsound or randomtech is the way to go. True you'd be spending a lot of money on a smog device but anything thats flowing over 400cfm's is going to be really good and emmision's passable. I'm not sure where but I found one of those carsound cats for around 90bux. I dunno, I still have to check a lot into it.
If I find where that carsound is again i'll post it because i'm probably gonna buy it. I might as well do it right the 2nd time right? Rather then do it right the 3rd time if i buy another catco.
ANY HIGHFLOW CAT WILL SET OFF A CODE. If it is not stock then you are going to get a SES light, PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Stock cats don't flow that good for a reason nad that is because they have extra meterial inside of them to heat the exhaust gases instanly when the engine is cold, thus reducing cold start emmsions. NO AFTERMARKET CAT has this. Without the stock cat the a code will be set off telling you that the cat does not work right.

Exactly. Fellas, please don't waste your money buying a more expensive cat like random tech thinking it will cure the SES light, cause it won't.
600 miles.. give it a few more thousand.. enjoy your ses light..
Anyway, I have a new plan..
I am thinking about getting an LS1 cat..
cause that will provide a little better flow, and! will probably not set of an error code..
anyone know the PN for this?
anyone ever tryed it?
thanks,
~Billy
