  • CAI help please!

Okay, I've been reading all the threads about intake systems and I'm still confused. Maybe somebody can help me.
I have a 2000 (3.8) Firebird and I want the whole intake package, CAI, Whisper lid, and air filter if I can. But some people seem to say that 98+ Firebirds can't get the SLP CAI; they have to only get a Whisper lid. My question is exactly which mods can you put on a 2000 Firebird.

Another question I'm sure has been asked before is which CAI is the best? Many people like SLP but apparently that doesn't have a blockoff plate. I'm not sure if getting water in the engine is a possibility, but I want to be sure that it isn't. Should I go with SLP, FTRA or something else?

in my 97 camaro the SLP CAI did come with a blockoff plate, and even if it didnt, i wouldnt worry about it cause at the way my car was designed, there is no chance of water getting into the engine bay without a plate. may be different for a 2k bird
SLP CAI, RK Sport headers, P&Ped heads and intake, GT2 cam, Upgraded valvetrain, Z28 rear axle with 4.10s Tx Spd tune, Z06 rims, 2.5\" exhaust to flowmaster, 160* thermo, B&M ripper, upgraded ignition, rockford fosgate 12\" with sony xplode amp and HU.

but furycharger's car is a different induction setup than the 98+'s, so his car is different than your's. To BratliensBird: the SLP is only a cold air kit. the others (FTRA, SSRA, whisper ram air, ect) are ram air kits. they're basically the same, except the ram air is like a more effective cold air kit. You can use both the lid and the ram air (or cold air) at the same time (that's what most people do). I've heard that it's nearly impossible to get water into the engine through the cold air/ram air unless you go through a foot or more of water, just let off the gas when you do go through it so the throttle body closes (just in case - I do). Hope I helped.
