  • 2.5" Y-Pipe with 3" Exhaust?

I'm still in the process of ordering the intake/exhaust combination in my signature.. It will end up being like this:

    SLP CAI
    Pacesetter 3.8 Headers (Ceramic Coated)
    3" High Flow Cat
    SLP Loudmouth Catback (3")

I called AMM Performance and they said the y-pipe is only 2.5".. Wouldn't this limit the flow quite a bit? To me it seems like this would defeat the purpose of the 3" Catback by creating a bottleneck? Am I right? If so, where can I get a 3" Y-pipe to fit with the Pacesetter Headers?

    Thanks..

Don't worry about bottlenecking... People exaggerate a little bit more then they should.

Do you have them? The siotes all say 2 1/2" COLLECTORS, I just assumed they would also have a 2 1/2" at the end of the Y. Anyone confirm this, I am waiting on my set also and this would make my catback decision easier.

Do a quick search of the board. It seems that most people say it's 3". I don't have them (yet) so I can't really say either way. ;)

I have absolute proof it is 3".

Picture 1: The end of the Y-pipe, just so you get an overall view of it.

Picture 2:: The opening is just a smidge over 3". If you look at Picture 1, you can see that it flares out right there, so the question is, is it at least 3" the whole way through?

Picture 3: Here I measured the circumference at the smallest spot, and it was about 9.5". So, circumference/pi = diameter.

            9.5/3.141 = 3.02

So, yes, the pacesetter y-pipe is 3", and I rest my case your honor.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.. I'm going to call AMM Performance tomorrow about everything so hopefully I can get it all ordered and get it before I go back to school.

The coated headers are on backorder right now. I know AMM Performance is out of stock, and I don't know of anyone that has them right now. It's gonna be a couple months until they become available again. :(

The following are both replies that I made to another post. Please fill me in with your feedback on the situation...

(Inreference to painted 3.8L V6 headers)I just sold my last set on Monday. I called Pacesetter today and they have 58 sets of painted 3.8L V6 headers in stock. I am trying to work with Jet-Hot to get a package deal on getting some painted headers coated with their coating. The wait time will be a lot shorter but the price will be a little higher. How many people would be interested in this deal?

                    Next reply:
Okay, I spoke with the guys at Jet-Hot and the total shipped for a set of Pacesetter headers with a Jet-Hot coating is $406.00 for the 3.8L V6 and you're looking at about 3 weeks for delivery.
This ends up being about $80 more than the coated ones from Pacesetter, but the Jet-Hot coating is a lot better and the wait time is A LOT shorter.

If anyone is interested, please send me an E-mail.
