  • Cheap exhaust mod

    http://www.ls1.com/link_exhaust.html

i've seen that on LS1.com before. now, i'm skeptical as to any beneficial effects of this. it pretty much bypasses the muffler, which should (theoretically) improve sound and performance. again, though, i'm skeptical. anyone had any experience with this mod, and if it's actually worth doing?

NOTE: i won't be getting a real exhaust anytime soon, so something like this would just be to hold me over till then.

Not trying to be rude, but try people on LS1.com because people here prolly haven't seen that mod much less done it. BTW, it only partially bypasses the muffler; the exhaust flow will follow the path of least resistance. Since the pipe is smaller than the exhaust tubing, only some of the exhaust will bypass the muffler.

just checked over there...this is apparently a common modification on corvettes. A&A Corvettes makes a pipe for this mod for $59, this can be done by any exhaust shop though. seems like a decent way to improve power/sound. i'll be taking the car to my friend's shop to see if he'll do it. i'd rather have the pipe welded on instead of using epoxy.

by the time you figure in turbulence and the minimal flow that is acvhived. you will probably find that it's useless

              that would be great........

........if we had true stock dual exhaust. its just like doin an h-pipe. evens out the pipe pressure somewhat, and you get like 1-2 hp. but we have one pipe, so whats the point?

do it between the pipe coming from the engine and the pipe coming out of the exhaust, and it is essentially a muffler bypass.

its just like having a 1" plate open on a borla catback... i dont see it as such a bad thing. for less than $10 to do it and epoxy it up, it might not be too bad. i couldnt see myself doing it, but overall, it doesnt seem like a bad idea

i wouldn't have it epoxied...i'd have it welded on.
