  • so then ideally a 2000 exhaust...

    For a 2000 3.8 l camaro

would be, including the cat convertor:

a 3 inch in/out Catco cat into a 3 inch "S" pipe to the cat back system, either 2.5 inch or 3 inch based on the system of choice (FlowMaster, Dynomax, Borla, B&B Triflow, etc.)...

So the only issue would be the exhaust shop properly installing the O2 sensor into the "S" pipe so the SES light does not turn on...

The standard Cat Convertor on a 2000 is 3 inch in, 2.5 inch out (correct?). So does that mean the "S" pipe is 2.5 inches or 2.25 inches?

If the "S" pipe is 2.25 inches, then a 3 inch Catco cat will not fit, but what about a 3 inch Catco out into a 2.5 inch "S" pipe (assuming the stock "S" pipe is 2.5 inches)?

If the "S" pipe is 2.25 inches, there appears to be no point for the high flow cat due to the restriction would be at the "S" pipe, which is after the high flow cat.

I greatly appreciate everyone's insight, this will save me time with my exhaust ordering.

    thanks

    dave

Don't think the '00 are any different than the '99 in exhaust setup (except manifolds), so your cat should be 3" in, 2.25" outlet. I have a 3" in/out high flow catco going into my stock 2.25" S-pipe. I am going to replace the stock s-pipe with two 45* bends from JC Whitney (someone else has done this). The shop should be able to make it to where it does not throw a code, but if it does just pick yourself up an o2 sim.

Actually I don't know if this is true for the 2000 I never paid that much attention to mine but on the 2002 the cat is 3 inches in and out with a reducer.

So the stock cat can simply be modified to be a 3" cat? A new cat isn't "needed" ?

Does a 2.25 out on the cat negate using anything larger for the rest of the exhaust? ie Is there a point to getting a Z28 2.75 inch pipe and a 2.5 inch muffler when your cat is still 2.25?

I had the stock cat examined and it is 3" in and 2.25" out. ;)
