  • Removing AIR System

Has anyone removed the Secondary Air Injection System? I think only the 3.4's w/manual trans had it, and I need to take mine off because my pacesetters don't have a spot to connect it. I'd get a bung for it welded in, but if I don't need it for the car to run well, then I'll just take it off. Has anyone at all done this or at least knows what I'm talking about?

I would take mine off but I'd probably fail my emissions inspection without it. If you still have the stock intake plastic you just need to block that off. Getting the metal tube off where it wraps around the back side of the motor might be tough. The motor should run just fine without it but if you want to see if it sets off an SES light try unplugging the electrical connector and see what happens.

It's simple to remove. There is an AIR pump on the front driver's side frame rail. Remove that and all of the plumbing and you're set.

unless you have a visual inspection you should pass. it only runs the first few mins of start up to heat the cats. it "should" not set a code when removed either

Unfortunately that's what our county has right now, just a visual emissions inspection. If all they did was a tailpipe sniff test then as you say, run the car down the road and get it warmed up and it should have no problems passing.

Thanks for the info guys. I took it off today w/o much of a problem. Inspection isn't an issue since they only check the emissions and not visual here.
