  • New Air Intake?

Has anyone ever attempted to adapt the LS1 air intake system for the 3.8. Or some sort of variation where it's more of a direct airflow without the huge bend to the side of the engine bay?

I was thinking about trying to construct an air intake that it's source would be either above or below the radiator. If you've been under the front of your car you've noticed how that little black plastic thing forces air up into the radiator. I was thinking if I could get the intake there some how, it would be shielded from engine bay (somewhat) and when your moving you'd be getting plenty of freah air.

    Ideas?

#1. the '99 and up cars had a straight TB, you can use a Whisper Lid for it.

#2. I don't think you can "adapt" the LS1 set-up at all. You'd have to take the engine apart to do that, and it'd be a totally custom fabrication job (since the 3.8 is offset anyway).

#3. you wouldn't want to have the air filter down that close to the road. one puddle and your engine is drinking water.

Well I'm thinking of higher up, like in front of the radiator. Because the air flow goes under the front bumper, then the little black plastic thing is meant to force air up to the radiator. There is a void area in front of the radiator. I just can't figure out a way to get to it, without going around or under the radiator to begin with. I'll be crawling under the car this weekend, I'll see if I can figure something out.

this has already been made by a few people; one by fast toys, one by SLP, and a few have been fabbed up by people with the right gauge lying around.

I'm looking to do something like this myself.
I have the LS1 airbox already.

My plan is to make a Radiator Cover (unless I can get my hands on one from a LS1), and something similar to the SLP cold Air intake, that basically uses the Radiator Air Feed to also feed the inlet.

Really must pull my finger out and do this!
