  • Whisper Lid Install: Need Help!!

I tried to install the whisper lid today and the instructions weren't very clear that came with it. Anyways, I can't remove the hose from the silencers to the throttle body because the clamp is not a screw type clamp. At least, I'm supposed to do that right? I think from the instructions I'm supposed to remove the old air lid, the silencers and reuse the old hose from the silencer to the throttle body. But I can't get the clamp off of the silencer. The clamp has like three slits where pieces of the clamp is popped up to keep it from slipping. Anyone encounter a problem like this from their install on a Camaro(I have a 2001 V6)? If there is anyone that could give me a few pointers that would help me on the install(already went to installuniversity.com, but that is for an LS1, the install is different) or maybe some pictures as to how it should be done, I would be very grateful.
Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?

Take a flat headed screw driver and pry where it is crimped and it will slide off

Yeah..I was goofing around with that piece last night. You need to pull smaller circle piece out of the washer and then the whole thing just slides right out.

To : xjarayax: those plastic tabs are not what I'm talking about.
Blue Flame V6 I think is talking about what I'm looking at. If I take apart the clamp, will I be able to put it back(just in case I need factory work done)?

The Whisper lid SHOULD have come with 2 new clamps for the job. I just yanked my old stuff off, including the clamps and whatnot, and went from there. It is prettyt self explanatory once you get all that off from the car.

Like 2 weeks ago I didn't know Whisper made a lid for the v6's, and I bought one on LS1 for much cheaper! So, point being, if you don't have new clamps, go to home depot and buy the screw type that are similar to the one on the lid for $0.73/ea. And if the hose from the old lid to the MAF doesn't line up, get some dryer hose to go from the lid to the MAF. And if you want it to look pretty, wrap the dryer hose with black duct tape. And if you want to make sure if seals well, plumbers putty works very well around the MAF. And if you want, you can take the MAF screen out too, and while you are at it, the free ram air mod is easy to do if you get that far.

He's right. The Whisper comes with all its own stuff...if you bought it used the guy didn't supply everything. I'm sure you can find the parts elsewhere.

I got it with everything I need(2 screw clamps). I'm just wondering if I could take out the factory clamps, which are non-screw type, without breaking them. If not, I just yank away at the slits right?

You can also roll the end of the air silencer tube down and the clamp will come right off, as well......at least it did on mine. Don't worry if you break them, you can replace them with 3" clamps from Lowe's or Home Depot for fairly cheap. I helped a friend of mine install his last summer & it was missing a clamp, so we went and bought one for it.

I took mine off the throttle body and the silencers together went to bnech and removed the clamp. I did not destroy it so it is reuseable if need be. dont for get to put the sensors back on either.

What is "bnech"? Is there a tool that will remove the non-screw type clamp? Also, if I was to take the entire hosing off from the throttle body, do I just pull away? I don't think there is anything keeping it there like or clamp or glue right? I assume it's safe to pull the hose straight off of the throttle body?
