They aren't cheap and the last time that I checked, it was a dealer only item...if you don't have emissions, I'd say f**k it. If you do...I dunno...you could try to clean it, but if the solinoid is bad? You could also try a bone yard or something and get it off of a totalled car with lower miles.

What is an ERG valve? I was thinking when I read this of an EGR valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). And I nearly fainted when I saw $300 for one! I paid like 5 bucks for mine on the '91, but if it's electronic then I can definitly see the price.

ya.. for a carborated engine. .the EGR valve is cheap. i remember my dad paying 5 bucks for his on his 86 dodge. But since the EGR valve on the 3800 is all electronical. its gonna be quite pricey.

chris, you should go to the dealership, grab the mechanic that said you need a new one, Have him pull the codes up right in front of you, write them down, and let me have the code.. ill look it up for u. Cause i read in the haynes manual that the only way to tell if the egr valve for 3.8 is bad, is through the computer.. i honestly think its just one of those bull**** scams that dealerships like to do. tell you everything is wrong when all you need is an oilchange..blablabla

lemme drive it next time i see you.. I say your cat is prolly going bad cause u do have about 75k on a stock cat. but who knows...

A junk yark is probably the cheapest place. Other than that the dealer or gmpartsdirect.com.

If they broke the tubes while working on your car they are responsible to fix it, I believe.

There is no cheap was around this repair. I put it off for close to a year as I kept getting SES on/SES off.

Dealer wanted close to $350 for replace and install. I called up a good friend who works for a dealership and got a new one for $150 and installed it myself. Install isn't hard at all...15 minutes tops.

You can try to get one at a junkyard but that might be bad as well. Like I said, this won't be a cheap fix.

Sucks, when my EGR was bad I got better mileage than when I replaced it. Dumb CA emissions...

My 3.1 is MPFI, just not DFI so I guess that makes a difference. One advantage to the older f-bodies!

stop everyone stop this madness, Tyler is right about the computer part, a code will definatley come up, ex. mine was EGR Pintle Position, I did try cleaning it out however it probably won't help a whole lot. You shouldn't buy a used one, most likely you won't find a newer camaro at a junkyard with really low miles on it. And for the price they'll charge you anyway for it you might as well buy a brand new one. You never know when the one you buy used could go the same route. Anyway I got mine from gmpartsdirect.com for like 80bucks. I installed it myself, it's easy all you have to do is loosen 2 bolts slap it on and hook the harness into it. Just please makesure you don't go cleaning crazy and try to take off the pipes connecting it. I broke a bolt off in my manifold, it's impossible to get the shank out of the manifold because of the angle, it caused me living hell and now it's just being held on there with muffler mender. Anyway good luck man.

Before you invest in a new EGR try something. Get some carb cleaner and remove the EGR valve, thoroughly clean the Valve with the carb cleaner and where it came out, replace the unit and see if the service engine soon light disappears. Its usually a piece of carbon that affects the sensor and makes the computer nuts. Worst case you tried and you still have to spend the $300, but if it works, you still have enough carb cleaner to do your engine and lots of bucks left.
