• I know some people complain about Flowmaster, But...

Has anyone heard/or own the American Thunder 2 1/2" catback WITH CAI, AND Resonator AND Whisper lid? I know CAI helps with the Borla, but what about the FLowmaster?

I know I've been thinking about Dynomax, but have never been far from the AT, esp. since it was on tv, and would rather go with something my Dad and I can put on in a few hours. I also want something louder, as long as it is deep...don't care about what it sounds like above 5000rpms.

my friend has one with the resonator and a cai, no whisper lid. it was loud. if you want loud but not as loud as the loud mouth, go with the american thunder one. it sounds good down low. but keep in mind you do have to run new piping all the way to the cat since it comes in a kit.

That I can do. Right now i have the stock 2 1/4" piping...I just don't want it to sound too hollow in the 2k-3k rpms.

before i got the bigger pipers.. the 2 1/4 pipes sounded better than with the 2 3/4 pipes.

there was no popping no raspiness at all really.
but you wont notice any gains at all without gett'n bigger pipes.

Yo guys, Im not looking to hate on anything, but personaly I hate the way the Flowmaster sounds on the 3.8 / 3.4 I mean sure its loud, but the reason I dont like it is because the way it sounds to me is like an amplifier for your exhaust that is somehow legal. Ive had friends with them all. 3.4 3.8 no cai , with cai , flowmaster, stock exhaust, high flow cat with cat back. every exhaust combo you can think of besides headers in the mix. I like the magnaflow. because its got sound but its not a blower like the flowmaster, ( or the loud mouth is l33t) but its not street legal. or so I thought. I personal love the way my 3.8 97 stock firebird exhaust sounds. ( its doesnt sound like the average F-body) But I wanted a little more performance from time to time so I did a cutout with electronic valve control. I drive with it open for the most part because it sounds like Ive got a turbo on my car and every so ofter my friends say I shoot out a flame. So I guess in closing Id say Im not a fan of the flowmaster. If you want sound out of a 3.8 Get headers. To me the flow sounds great @ about 1000-2200. ( or when reving it in nutral or park with the rev limiter hitting.) due to no resistance from the tires it kicks up fast and sounds mean. but yeah. I think Im done

magnaflow to me sound to hollow and ricey sounding. my friend who has a 98 with them on makes everybody who hears them turn the otherway. he is completely stock so i dont know if that affects it or not but ehhh.

The Flowmaster 80s sound excellent on a V6.

Also I've heard Tyler's Flowmaster am. Thunder and it sounds just as good. Can't go wrong with them.

I just don't want to sound like my neighbors car. (not sure what kind of exhaust), which sounds like a flowmaster-like mine. His is much louder than mine, BUUUUT it sounds so hollow I couldn't stand driving it.

The fbodies around here are stock sounding ,so I would be different by changing the system out, and want to go with a catback. I want something my dad and Ican put on together (i need experience working with these cars

Edit:
Where did you get yours, btw? I know Jegs has them for $271 (though I've heard some stories about the double charging :( ) ANd Onestopexhaust.com has them $279 (about the same)...but haven't heard much about them. I'll either order it online or see if Autozone can order it.

IMO it's better to custom make your own exhaust as in you choose the muffler&tips you really want&than have someone install it?
