  • 3.8 intake manifold design

    As i was taking the motor down to change head gasket(just for good measure), i thought i would port match, and polish the entire assembly.
    And to my surprise our intake manifold's are pretty well designed.

    Let me explain, it is proven that air flows freely around a smooth corner or what is often called a velocity stack(horns). When i was in school i question the teacher on why we should put play dough around the intake port that we were measuring on the Super Flow(flow bench). His exact words were, "do qeustion everything mister Masterson", followed by, "the air has a smoother transaction around a a smooth corner then a sharp edge." when you break it down our cars have a velocity stack per cylinder.

    The problem is the casting flaws are horrible, in school i tested, before and after porting or polishing different manifolds while i was in school.None of them, or the ones i have done since then show such casting errors(when looking at a performance piont of veiw).

    Basically the reason i have made this post was to inform you of knowledge and tips for free power.By simply removing the casting lines you wil reduce the air resistance, therefore making your engine or air pump flow better.

    Good point, never thought about that. When I replaced my head gasket, I noticed how udderly dispicable my 3.4 intake system is. It sucks to have a TB as bid around as my ****. :D
