I think...I am not sure...I have the classis y-pipe rattle/buzz noise. It is a buzzing rattly noise that occurs only at a certain RPM (~2000 RPM) coming from the front end of the car. It isn't very loud, but it's noticeable and annoying. Is there any way to reduce the noise short of replacing the y-pipe. I thought about a used one, but it'll end up doing the same thing eventually. Can I beat it with a hammer so the inner pipe contacts the outer pipe? I heard of the welding thing but won't that rust out the outer pipe? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds just like the double-wall issue. My local muffler shop tack welded it for $25, no more rattle.

i have got headers on mine and it makes the same type of noise. Would it be a good idea to weld it. The headers are ceramic coded and im not sure if i want to do that. The gasket (aka"collectors") seem to keep burning up quickly and its making it rattle and hiss. This is so annoying but i dont feel like replacing the gasket all the time cuz it gets old having to get under there. its to much of a hastle. Any comments or solutions are greatly appreciated.

So it could either be the heat shield on the cat or the exhaust manifold, or the cat going, right? What's the easiest way of telling which one it could be?
