• 3.4L EGR valve location?!

I have my trusty haynes manual and i've searched for EGR valve info on the board but I still can't find the POS... before I go bending over for the $$ it costs to replace the valve, I'd like to pull it out and use some TB cleaner on it and replace the gasket and see if that helps any. Can anyone tell me where to find it? I have a couple guesses but I want to be sure because I don't know much about emission control stuff.

    Thanks guys ~ Chad

Open you hood, look at the passenger side of the engine....at the top. It is between the intake manifold and soem AC lines. It will have an electrical connector in the top with three "cylinder-like" things on the top. There will also be a metal tube coming from the base of it to the side of the intake manifold. Hope this helps....lemme know if you need some pics.

thanks josh that was easy. does the cylinder thingy come off w/o hassle? i just want to pull it, clean the valve, replace the gasket, and call it good. i'm not going to kill my car am i?! i wouldn't think so but it's always worth it to me to double check these things.

Undo the two hex screws and then it comes off easy.

what would happen if you block the egr valve from putting exhaust back in to the intake?

well hey maybe after i pass DEQ next month i'll try blocking it and see what happens performance wise. it's not like i can't "un-block" it again. unless the codes throw me way off and the car runs like crap i think it would be kinda cool

When you put it back on, use some of that orange hi-temp RTV. That's what I used on it, and it will seal up any holes. The seal that comes with it is a piece of junk, and will probably get bent up a bit when you take it off.

I blocked mine at the intake plenum a while back. I saw no performance gain and got annoyed with the SES light going on and off.

the light keeps coming on because when the egr is blocked off, the O2 sensor is reading a richer mixture. I ws thinking of blocking mine off when I put the manifolds on the engine, put will just suck it up. However, blocking off the egr works great in non-comp controlled engines :D

The EGR went bad on my 95 3.4 about 20k miles ago.... since then ive been living with SES codes and bad fuel miledge and almost 1sec slower in the 1/4mi. I havn't fixed it yet cause ive found better ways to spend $250 (like eibach springs). I went from 26-28mpg and high 15s in the 1/4mi to 22mpg and high 16s cause of that sucker. Oh well, its not a race car so im not too worried, but i would like the better fuel miledge

Well I went to the local GM dealer today and ordered all new gaskets for the EGR valve/tube and throttle body. 5 gaskets total. I'm pulling it all off and cleaning the s**t out of it tomorrow after I finish my running around for the day and hopefully I'll have it all clean and running better by party night.... errr I mean Friday night :D My problem is the EGR valve is all carbed up and it sticks open/closed. If I'm lucky, the throttle body cleaner will losen it up enough to squeeze some more miles out of the expensive sucker. What a rip off for that valve.... I spent $30 on those 5 gaskets and I thought I was being sneaky!!!
