Question for members who have a high flow cat, 3inch I-pipe to a flowmaster 80
Question for members who have a high flow cat, 3inch I-pipe to a flowmaster 80
How does it sound and what gains in power have you noticed. I have a 2002 and i was thinking of replaceing my stock cat with a catco and then from there get the american thunder cat back that consist of 3inch pipeing back to a 80 series flowmaster. I am looking for that sound that everybody raves about with Stefin's car. I do not plan on getting headers because i already have the tubular manifolds which have been proven that little to no gains in sound and in power are acomplished going from the stock tubulars to headers. Please let me know what you guys think and yes i did use the search mode. ;)

2004 Dodge Dakota 3.7 litres of raw power!!
Nothing but a 6!
Do you know for sure? John 3:18
Stefan has the headers and it is SC, in addition to those things.... thats why it sounds so good.
You won't achieve that sound w/ just those parts you mentioned, but hey its a start.
Flowmaster will give you more rumble. I'm also thinking of another cat-back that will give you more rumble and sound volume, yet more refined than a cutout. :D
Well Stefin said his car sounds the same with or without the SC bolted on. As far as headers go, i have heard other 3.8s sound the same with stock tubulars and heard no difference in sound with headers.

I have RKSport headers, 3" piping, 3" catco cat, Flowmaster 3" catback into 80 series dual 2.5" outs with 3.5" outlet tips.
My car Rumbles pretty good, but I had my ENTIRE exhaust done at 1 time, so I don't know what 1 piece made it sound better than the next other than the ENTIRE setup.
MY setup is very similar to Stefans other than the Cat I believe which is still really really close. Tips shouldn't make that big of a differance in sound.
I belive my car sounds good throughout the rpm range.
If any of the RedLineVSix guys happen across this post maybe they can give you their opinion of my setup because I may be biased :D
you need headers for better sound. my wife could tell when mine where put in, so it wasnt something i could hide from her. SHE could tell the difference and SHE is a WOMAN. you wouldnt think a woman would notice such a thing.
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.
Stephans cars exaust sounds the same with the blower hooked up or with it not..My car sound pretty close to his but his still is deeper.. Its probably because of the ported heads too.. With the catco and 3inch cat back with a 3 inch 45 degree s pipe and 3 1/2 tips you should love the sound.. I have the headers so I dont know how well the tubular manifolds flow..
Jeff ..
1998 Firebird.. Built 3.8 with a 125 shot.. 370rwhp,415rwtq.. stock tune!! sold
I have eveyrthing but a stock cat (modified outlet to 3") and a 2.75" I pipe and it's LOUD (for a V6). It's much louder than a stock V8's exhaust at all points.
Thanks for all the info guys. If anybody has any sound clips that would be great. In anycase i really dont have the money for headers but i do believe that the stock tubulars will work just fine. Also how does this setup sound in the upper RPM range. I know it will still sound like a 6 but i dont want the chainsaw sound to come through like i have with the cutout.
