So I pulled off my air silencer tonight and the inside of the air silencer and the maf screen was cover in a thick black sicky substance, basically it had the consistency of hot tar, I haven't taken off the throttle body itself to see how far this goes back. I know this can't be good, does anyone know what this substance is?

I have no clue what it may be. I think it may be sealant for the rubber. If it is on the maf screen, take it to the dealership, if still under warrant and say you have been having problems with you car not making a lot of power.2001 Arctic White Firebird
T-Tops, 3.42 rear gear stock
Mods:K&N Air Filter,Whisper Air Induction Lid, maf screen removed, raised air box, Kumho Ecsta 712 255-50-ZR16 tires, BMR stb
Mods not installed yet: FTRA, SLP Lsd/Differential cover
Near Future Mods: HPP3, GMMG 3\" Exhaust , 1LE Swaybars, Transgo Shift Kit, MSD-DIS-4 w/ Accel Coil-Packs, Turquoise Blue Neon Underbody Kit, BMR Adj.
