Anyone have a guide to removing the air silencers on the 3.8?
I would think it wouldnt work on a 97 by looking at my friends 96 they are totally different.
THANKS! OH, Now I understand. I thought the tubes on each side were different sizes. So 3 inch pvc pipe ya say? Ok just checking. I think I will go pick mine up tonight. Thanks for the pic hou-tex-six that cleared it all up.
that's exactly how mine looks. the part is just a coupling for fitting two pieces of 3" PVC together. it's about 4-5 inches long and 3" inches wide. i paid $4.29 for it. don't forget the 3" clamps.....you're probably gonna need them.

Sorry dude won't work for your car. YOu have the older style TB that is angled downward. That is why you don't understand how it works.

i'd get 4 inch clamps, the 3 inch clamps are almost to small, the 4 inch gives you more room to work with

There's no way to get this to work for a '98?

Ahh, but there is a way. I actually accomplished this 2 nights ago. Its probly not as effective as the 99+ but it still gets the job done. Heres what you do:
goto home depot and get a 4 to 3 inch pvc pipe reducer. Put the 4 inch end on the tube coming from the air box lid then off the 3 inch end you will run some dryer vent duct 3 inch also found at homedepot. But its impossible to get a streight shot to the throttle body so you have to go just a little bit down with the vent duct and back up to the throttle body. You will then need a couple 3 inch clamps. So it looks really retarded because you will have some dryer vent duct in a circular formation but I promise it works. Maybee not so much for power but I did notice a nice deeper sound from the engine and exhaust. Cost me about $12.
Jeff, what size is the hole that you made for the IAT sensor? That's a sweet set-up, a helluva of a lot easier than the PVC. I have a 99, but that set-up ought to work good on it. Only concern would be if putting the IAT sensor on the back of the airlid would make any difference, because of the airflow there, compared to the airflowin the tube.

I don't remember the exact size, you'd have to measure it... To get the sensor to stay in the lid, I just simply put a rubber washer on each side. (I'll post some more pics for this one)
I will probably exchange the washers for a rubber grommet this weekend...
I figured that the temperature sensor would be find in the lid, sure the air flow is less in there, but it should still be the same temp...
i just did it using a black 3" pvc coupling from home depot ($1.73) and a couple of 4" steel clamps. now the mufler sound a little deeper and less ricey at high rpm's. i'm trying to get a digital camara to take some pictures
For the 99-up cars, the piece is at Home Depot, it's called a 3" to AMD or AWD, something like that. You can use a 3" clamp on the TB side, but you have to get the clamp behind the lip on the bellows, and it will take two people to get it on, because it's so tight. It works like a champ, although it feels like I lost a bit of torque on the bottom end, but it's better across the band, and it helped out a bit with the sound.
Also, for mufflers, I got to looking under my car when I was going to stick in a WS6 exhaust, and noticed that I have a Flowmaster on my car already. So, I left the stock I-pipe and the Flowmaster, and put the two exhaust pipes from the WS6 muffler onto the Flowmaster. That also changed the power a bit, the sound is a bit quieter on the freeway, and more mellow, but it doesn't sound ricey at the high end. It sounds pretty good.

I personally think it looks better than the sewage pipes I've been seeing on most of these cars...
So my truck is finally getting some work done, after 17 years, Oil pressure sensor went out and it’s located under the lower intake manifold. Have to...
