  • Ram Air Intake Installed!

wow! I didn't even felt it installing it. It was very easy and the gain was noticable. I am mechanically challanged and I did it in like 45 minutes. I intalled http://www.lmperformance.com/5610/13.html SSRA Austin Ram Air Intake with Whisper Lid and Holley lifetime filter. I do recomment everyone to get this kit. Everything just fit perfectly.

    Here's what i used:

SOMEONE tried to do a free air mod ...lol.....THis is what i saw when i took my air filter .... :

ok, now i have a question or two.....

    1. Here are some pic of the throttle body. I am thinking that because of the long leather pipe , i have caused some restrictions in my airflow. Should i cut this flexible pipe a little, so that it's connected more normally without all those wrinkles?

My second question, it is worth buying those "heat protective" tapes and wrap around the flexible pipe? like this one http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/racers_tape.php

Is the wire on that flextube plastic or metel? If its plastic its not going to work. It will heat up and crush like a soda can.

*shudder* whoever designed that angled intake at GM should be shot! I'd save up and get the late model straight intake plenum. People on here sell em for less than $100. As for heat, if your intake gets hot enought to melt plastic you got something else to worry about. I've driven my car for hours and touched under the hood and nothing except the actual intake manifolds on down are remotely hot. The baffles do restrict air flow though, but you don't want it too tight or it could pop off or rip.

Nice SSRA though, I had one myself til my accident, its VERY easy to break, be careful parking, it will scrape/crack.

Do you understand how much work it is to convert to the straight intake? It isn't as simple as just swapping intakes and tb. You might want to research the swap before recommending it to people. ;)

THanks man! yeah angled intake sucks :( i was concerned about heat but today i was proven wrong. i drove my car for maybe 20 minutes at 40-45 MPH at outside temp. of 55 degrees maybe . When i came home i wanted to see if it got hot. so i popped the hood and I was surprized that whisper lid was really cold along with the flexible neck. Also, the throttle body was cold too. THis SSRA does work! i CAN feel the extra power in throttle response while i am in motion. i am gonna keep it just the way it is. One of the BEST modification under $150 <---atleast thats how much i paid :D:D:D:

Sorry I was under the impression that that WAS all you had to do. I suppose it's all probably wired up differently. And now that I think about it Drive-by-Wire was probably introduced around the same time, so ya that could get complicated.

Yea i drove in a huracane last year ( Not the smartst thing ). But man did my car drive smooth. Unfortunatly i drove through some water that was a little too deep. The water was only about 8 inches deep but the little air guide that guides the air up over your radiator guided the water stright up into my engine. Hydro locked it. Everything worked out ok my car is just fine but just keep in mind 8in of water + 7ish mph = hydrolock!
