Can someone tell me what the justification is for the K&N FIPK kits are? I mean they cost $300+ dollars is there an actual signifigant gain in hp for them over the SLP cold air induction kit or the standard under the hood intake?
And just for clarification a ram-Air hood is not needed for a ram air induction kit correct? Also does the ram air induction kit have any advantage over the standard SLP kit like this http://www.lmperformance.com/741/13.html?

Those induction kits with the tubular filters and pipes seem like they'd be a pain in the *** to install as well.

    1. no difference. no gain, just paying for a name
    2. no, a ram-air hood wouldnt not be functional
    3. no it has really nothing over the SLP
    4. they are pretty easy to install. everything is made to fit perfectly if you buy a good quality one. not just some BS off ebay that some kid made and sold for a hard core profit

Ok if you have a 1997 or older the slp cai and k&n fipk are almost the same thing.

If you have a 1998 or newer a k&n fipk and WHISPER LID"+filter" are basically the same thing. the slp/whisper/fasttoys ram air scoops can be added to the k&n fipk or whisper lid.

Does anyone have a picture of their SLP intake namely the base one, Is there a difference appearance wise between the SLP CAI and the SLP Ram-Air intake.

i'll be more specific.. the silver metal plate thingy is the SLP Cold Air Induction kit.. the filter on top of it is the SLP Ram Air Intake. The SLP cold air intake is for 93-97 fbodies.

K I see that I'm just new to this, does a lid go over that? I'm just confused about the irregulary shaped filters, shouldn't you not be able to see the intake with the filter on?

                Re: What's the difference?

Yes your stock lid or after market lid can go on top. Or a k&n fipk can go on top as pictured.

I wouldnt use one of the slp ram air plate things without a whisper lid, an aftermarket lid sholuld be first on your list to get full performance out of the slp cold air duct.
