Can i take the newer style intakes of the 98+ and put it on my 96? What i am asking is if the ftras, slps, and whisper lids will fit my application like the newer cars. I am consercned that there wont be any clerance between the hood and the intake. Can this swap be performed?

Re: Intake options on a 96?
You cant have the 98+ style, but you can have the 93-97 style!! I think those look better anyways, especially the firebird's. oooh yes, you can make it a ram air. good ol suncoast. i dont know anyone on here that has done it, but you can do it. It will cost a pretty penny though. Get a new ram air hood, and a functional ram air kit. Check it out here. Links for the firebird and the camaro. http://www.suncoastcreations.com/ProductDetail.cfm?id=2 (camaro)

I looked into buying the ram air hood/kit for my firebird. It looks bada$$, but i could see the same gain with a SLP cold air kit at less than more than half the cost of this setup. It looks cool though.Last edited by Harrison; 04-24-2006, 02:55 PM.Black 1996 3.8 Firebird T5, SLP CAI, Pacesetter Ceramic Headers,160* t-stat, PCMforLess Tune, Flowmaster American Thunder catback, Car Sounds Cat, custom s-pipe, MSD coils and wires, NGK plugs, 3.42 posi rear, B&M Ripper, 245/50 BFG-G-force's

Re: Intake options on a 96?
Hey thanxs for the advice tho. I am still thinking about using some sheet metal that I have laying around and fabbing up a ram air setup using my factoring dummy air scoops on my hood. they are removeable to start with so just cleaning up the area around them and making a sheet metal structure to force the air twoards teh throttlebody shoudn't be that hard. Owell. thanxs

i take it you have a firebird? if you do, those dummy air scoops are past the intake i believe. that would do you jack squat.Black 1996 3.8 Firebird T5, SLP CAI, Pacesetter Ceramic Headers,160* t-stat, PCMforLess Tune, Flowmaster American Thunder catback, Car Sounds Cat, custom s-pipe, MSD coils and wires, NGK plugs, 3.42 posi rear, B&M Ripper, 245/50 BFG-G-force's

Re: Intake options on a 96?
slp makes a kit for 96-97 3.8's, you can find an slp cai on ebay or the forums usually pretty cheap.
any 3.4/lt1 kit can be adapted with the use of the 1le elbow. the only difference with slps kit is it includes the elbow.
dont waste your time making one, just get a nice one and be done with it. for the price you spend on a homemade one, you can get a nice slp used from someone.
Moroso makes one as well, as does lingenfelter, but i hightly recommend slp.

Re: Intake options on a 96?
No I have a 96 Camaro and I like to be different. Plus I get more pride out of my ride when I do this stuff myself. Besides I've took my measurements and have come up with 3 different ideas. Give me time to perform one then I will post back with the results and hopefully a pic( if i can get a camera).
