  • newbie, question on 80seriese flowmaster

howdy first off, im new to the forums but looks like ya'll got a great site going here with lots of usefull imformation!

my question is, ive looked at the sound clips ect but cant find one of what im thikning about doing, which is just putting a flowmaster 80 seriese muffler on without the whole catback system. would this "work" and still produce that mean sound from the flowmaster site if all i really want is the noise? or should i go ahead and upgrade with the flowmaster catback? it is a 3.8L 2000 camaro with hi-flow cat (dont know what company, ill have to look we had problems with the cat when test driving the car so gm / the dealership was nice enough to give us a hi-flow to smooth out the deal hehe) also if i still have a warrenty, would the muffler be best now to keep that in check or is it safe to get the catback based on what ya'll think w/o it "messing up" my car?

    thanks!

I have the Same 2K 3.8V6 and i put a Flowmaster 80 series on , sounds awesome would defenetly do it , but if you can get Pace Setter Headers
and get rid of the Cat (You don't need it !) and get yourself a O2 simulator so you don't get the check engine soon light.

wait....so if i just get a new muffler.....that light will be on all the time??? ....that is kind of a bummer. i dont think my dad will let me just get rid of the cat since thats what caused the problems in the first place w/ the car and because i kinda got a brand new one / supposed to have it for inspection right? .....well i think this kinda puts a damper on my plans....unless i just get the catback w/ cat mufler and pipes right?

Correct , If you dont put an O2 simulator on it and take the CAT out then you get the Light , but the O2 simulator is only like 25$ so its worth it i seen more power , better sound and less restriction resulting in better gas mileage in mine after removal of cat.

getting a catback OR just a muffler with not setoff a SES code for your rear 02 sensor.

hmm...so wait nachius are you saying the oposite? ....will notsetoff the code?

if i get ONLY the muffler WILL the light be ON / OFF?

if i get a A CATBACK from flowmaster WILL the light be ON / OFF?

IF IT IS ON.....is there any other solution to make it stay off other than getting rid of my cat ect and getting a o2 sim?

Re: newbie, question on 80seriese flowmaster

i misread , if you change the muffler and leave everything else in tact you will not set off the computer amd your sound will be a lot better

              sorry about that

Re: newbie, question on 80seriese flowmaster

It will also not go off if you get a catback , because the sensors are on the manifolds and Catalytic Converter only after that (Catbcak , Muffler , tips. etc.) does not affect the measurement

Re: newbie, question on 80seriese flowmaster

k cool. so if im reading this right i think im gonna go ahead and just get the 80 seriese muffler and i should be cool w/ the light and everything working properly. ill just wait for my warenty to run out to get a full cat and thats pretty far down the road so it doesnt worry me to spend the money on a muffler now.

so now that ya'll helped me w/ that *(THANKS ALOT GUYS HEHE!)*, does anyone have a sound clip / link to a 3.8 w/ a 80 seriese only? / know from experiance if i will get the sound i was talking about form this link:

                  http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/80_series.html

                  ? thanks alot guys!

I was actually thinking of doing this too, which muffler fits a Camaro though? All of them? I'd like to have the dual look, is that possible with one of these mufflers?

putting a catback on will not hurt a warranty in most cases.... and a full catback will not cause any problems.... there are no 02 sensors from the cat to the rear

yo notaz gald to see you posting. the kit you want is from summitracing.com you can order it from online or call 1800-230-3030 the part number is flo-17199
its a cat back kit although it does not reach all the way to the cat so you will be fine you need to buy a adapter that goes from 3 inch to 2 1/4 you can buy one from napa auto parts i have this kit on my car and it sounds like a v8 it will bolt right up you might need to make your own hanger on one side its dual outlet that are cromed and the go from the 3 inc outlet of the muffler to 4 inc tips its a great kit for about 319 $ i say thats the best 1 mod to do gl and have fun

thanks for the tip, is this kit made for the 98-02 camaro? has anyone else used this either? i'm gonna be reading up on this one and checking it out aswell as the flowmaster american thunder kit too. Would both require small "mods" or adapters either way? and also my dad and i were talking about this and getting me a system (out of 6 speakers....one works lol) for the summer time and which i should save up for first. and while the exaust sound would be fine for me to listen to he brought up the point that while i eventually want to get both by the end of summer, how loud exactly would the exaust be while just "riding" on the inside? like i want and understand the inside noise during exceleration and stuff and idling w/o any music on or anything and cant wait for the outside noise part all the time lol but inside at normal driving speeds will it be really loud aswell ?
