  • question about headers and gasket material

i was working on the car today, and i was thinking back to when i installed the headers. i remember that when it came to the gaskets i created my own. i used a material that is a bit thinner than the material supplied by pacestter. it was this gasket paper that autozone was selling. (its a dark colored felpro gasket paper) I put some ultra copper rtv on it too. regardless of whether or not i may get leaks, is there any way that having these thinner gaskets may damage the headers. i can't see that it would, but i want to be sure. i was thinking of putting on those abbott gaskets, but theyre 35 bucks, and i dont really wanna yank off the headers if i dont have to. they dont seem to be leaking, and if they are, its not a loud or obvious leak... allthough the exhaust and intake are pretty loud.

well, it sould not hurt the headers. replacing the gaskets shouldnt be that hard you would think. but the again, you added that gasket stuff so removing the headers would be required to clean that off. otherwise, i would just unbolt the headers, pry them back and swap the gaskets. if they dont seem to be leaking, dont worry about it :)
