  • Magnaflow sound clip request

It would be nice if anyone that has a close to stock setup except for a magnaflow catback system could post a sound clip of their exhaust. Or if you have a setup like this it would be nice if you could atleast describe the sound a bit. I've been thinking about getting one for a while but I can't find any decent sound clips. They have one one their website but it is of a v8. Also the clip in the exhaust clips thread is a dead link.

I have done as much reasearch as I can without getting personal opinions on the sound of the different catbacks and I'm basically looking for a low rumbling sound instead of the throaty midrange tone. From what I've heard of the magnaflow clips this (the low rumbly sound) is what they sound like. Although unless you have a good microphone the exhaust clips tend to sound completely different. Anyways opinions or sound clips are greatly appreciated.

    This is for a 96 3.8 liter.

he said the magnaflow clip is a dead link...

anyways, everyone wants the deep throaty sound, but its hard to find in our cars. You'll get a nice deep sound at idle most likely, but in the higher rpm range it will definitally rasp. Some people on here put a resonator somewhere on the i-pipe to kinda tone things down a bit and control the rasp. I have a flowmaster american thunder cat back, and i actually cut off the resonator and replaced it with a straight pipe because i didnt think the sound was loud enough for me. It definitally made a huge improvement, nice deep sound at idle, though it does get a little raspy in the high rpms, but not too bad under load.

I don't know from what I have heard of the american thunder catbacks they dont really have any of a roar/rumble. On the sound clips they just sound like the midrange "bellow" I was talking about. I actually like the sound of the stock exhaust except for the fact that you can barely hear it (Y87 package with dual exhuast). Although, it might just be the sound clips that make the american thunder catback sound like that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Here is the Exhaust Clip. Sorry it took so long, but I had to re-load it because I lost it within my files on the computer.

Thanks for the clip man. Thats a pretty good sounding exhaust at low rpms, but is it as raspy as it sounds on the video clip in real life? I'm thinking I might try the 2 1/2 inch version.

                        No Headers
CAI is homemade Pic 1 - Pic 2
S-Bend is also homemade. I took a U-Bend from Jegs, cut it in half, then rewelded it into an S shape. Worked great!

The rasp is only that loud when the engine is cold. As it heats up, the rasp gets much quieter. Personally, I don't like it at all, but it's the only exhaust I have. I threw my Dynomax away

Thats a very good point, my flowmaster is the same exact way. I wish i had a soundclip to post of it. I didnt like how mellow it was with the resonator but since i took it off it does sound much better, so thats always an option. As far as magnaflow, I havent heard one personally on a v6 yet, so I couldnt really tell you how it sounds, but a lot of people like them. Worst comes to worst, if you get an exhaust and dont like it, just change some things on it. Many of the people on the boards here dont have their exhaust set up the same way it was out of the box.
