theres no such thing as the "best" exhuast, so i guess your screwed. however, you can check out the "exhuast clips " sticky on the top of the Intake/Exhuast and listen to a bunch of different exhuast, and see what YOU think sounds " best". but basicly, in order to get the most power, dont get just a muffler, get headers,a hi-flow cat, and any cat-back pretty much. most people think borla sounds the best, but its expensive. i've heard magnaflow and flowmaster on 3.8's. and borla on a 3.4 , the borla sounded better to me, ( but 3.4's sound better than 3.8's) and the magnaflow was great, better than the flowmaster.

like loser said, there is no clear best for every category, but generally the adjustable borla(there are also cheaper non adjustable boral's but they don't sound as good) is considered the all around best. but its close to $1K.

then you have the sounds good but not best performance category. the swap in 80 and 40 series flowmasters and the magnaflow's mufflers are in this category. get one of these if you wont good sound and don't care about performance. it will save you money. but it will be little to no performance gain over stock

then you have the midrange group consisting of cat backs. a cat back is an exhaust system that replaces all the piping from the catalytic converter to the shiny tips. you have more flowmasters, magnaflows, borla's and many others in the category. I would suggest one of these. they sound good and perform better than stock. a lot of people also add cutouts to theses systems. a cutout is basically a caped off exhaust exit pipe that when opened dumps the exhaust without going through the muffler(usually before the rear axel). they are very loud, which is why you can cap them off and run the exhaust through the muffler when your not racing at the track or something.

then you have the few people that need all the power they can get all the time. they run either the TSP rumbler or the SLP loudmouth. both systems are 3" diameter piping, have a 24" long resonator with no muffler and are VERY loud. I would know, I have one. expect the neighbors to complain if you live in town and for the cops to hassle you about it. got one ticket for it already.:naughty:

i thought the bullets/resonator on the rumbler and loudmouth were 18 and 1/4" i could be wrong though? i wouldnt waste my money/time just getting a muffler, at least get a cat-back. magnaflow and elderbroc sound good and arent super loud. flowmaster is OK, i liked the magnaflow alot more personally.if you want loud go with the rumbler, its cheaper and better sounding than the loudmouth.

you might be right. I was going off what I saw with it sitting on the floor before I installed it. I never measured it.

I have a MagnaFlow Catback, and it sounds great on my 3.8.
