  • JB Weld on Pacesetter EGR Tube?

Anyone think this would hold? or would I be better welding the tube to the header? I just can't get the tube to seat correctly even with a gasket... With the bolt tightend down as far as it goes the top still hangs out just enough to have a good size leak...

Taking off the EGR completely is not an option in Mass where they are really tough on emissions...

used some copper RTV high temp silcone sealant. use it on the gasket, tighten down, the fill in any spaces by spreading it with your finger. this is what i did and it worked well. i would not weld it cause if it ever needed to come off, your'd be fNcked

I had trouble getting the tube to seat properly on my pacesetters as well. I used a hack saw and trimmed about 1/4 inch off the end of the tub. Afterwards it seated properly with no leaks.

Yea i had the same problem, but all i did to fix the leak 97% of the way was used a LT-1 EGR Gasket. Went to Dealership, was like $4 or something, put that in and worked pretty good. I heard pacesetter made an EGR gasket for our headers? that true?

Heres some pics of the stages I went thru:

Heres it while its like wide open leakin like a son of a _ _ _ _ _.

Heres it with some RTV copper lube or whatever that lasted like 2 weeks or 1 night of racing.

And here it is with the LT-1 Gasket. Looks goofy but thats because LT-1s actually had 2 bolts to close it up, which is how it shoulda been, but then again sometimes I wonder what the Engineers were smokin when they designed our cars.

Pacesetter did send a paper egr gasket and all hardware (although the bolts for the y-pipe to manifolds were too long and didn't have enough thread)

Unfortunatly I broke it after it had been on and I was trying to readjust the tube to get it to seat. After being hot for some time it just crumbled when I touched it.

Thanks for those pics 99w68firebird. Any idea what the part number for that Lt-1 gasket is? LT1 was 93-97, correct?

why not just get the egr blockoff plate from zzp performance? it's like $5, and there are no codes thrown. i bought one because my egr tube got ripped.

              Blldogg,

Did you make your own gasket or did you buy one for another vehicle? I tried to make my own, but it wouldn't seat properly once tightened.

Re: JB Weld on Pacesetter EGR Tube?

Thought I would pass along some info on how I *knock on wood* have fixed my issue.

I decided that welding or jb welding would be my absolute last option and luckily have not made it there yet.

After much trouble with the tube and crimping the outlet tube so that it would not seat correctly. I cut off the end of the tube that fits into the manifold completely so that it is flush with the piece that bolts to the manifold. I then took a large but thin washer and drilled out a hole slightly smaller than the hole in the header. I put high temp copper sillicone on both sides and used the washer as a gasket.

This seems to be holding so far and has cured the leak 100%!

In these days of $3+/gallon gas prices I did not want to lose any gas mileage--even if its only around 1 mpg.
