  • Exhaust fell off last night

So there i was on the side of the road, by some construction work on 17, looking sadly at my tailpipes lying on the road...

    Earlier that night...

I was at a traffic light, corner of Leigh and Moorpark. Light turns green, off i go, and all of a sudden my car is twice as loud as it was when i pulled up to the light. My passenger noticed it as well... i figured that maybe it was a one off thing and kept going.
Later that night leaving the bowling alley (car still hadn't quieted down, i figured by then that it must be an exhaust leak), i hear a clinking noise, and then a few miles later on the freeway and ::CRUNK:: and then the familiar noise of metal being dragged on concrete.

Apparently my muffler had disconnected (sheading 3 bolts in the process) itself from the rest of my exhaust and was now trailing on the ground. Woopie! That damn exhaust is but a month old and its already fallen apart!!

Luckly: I pulled over by some road works and there was a cop nearby. The nice CHP guys were very helpful, and even called their buddy in the tow buisness, which meant i got a tow for free :) (although i didn't have far to go anyway). The guy at the muffler shop also recognized me and obviously didn't charge me for fixing the problem, which is good cuz it was his fault anyway...

Unluckly: Because there were road works on the side of the highway i had to drive longer than i'd have liked with my exhaust trailing on the ground before i could pull over. As a result of this my exhaust tips are now ruined... especially the passenger side tip. :(

make the exhaust shop replace them since obviously they did not securely and properly install your stuff.

That sucks! Talk to the exaust shop... they are the ones that couldn't mount it correctley.

Definatly go to the exhaust shop because I don't care what brand of exhaust you have, it won't just fall off like that.

Yea, well like i said i already got it fixed at the shop... unfortunately the guy didn't replace the tips because he said he didn't sell that type... whatever. My only regret is that i forgot about the extra pair i had at home, i could have had my mom drop them off and had the muffler shop put them on as replacements.

Either way tho, i'm so sick of this exhaust... pretty much a big disappointment, i'm chucking it out the minute i get the money to replace it.

Sucks man. I wouldn't blame this on the Exhaust, but the shop that put it on. Get some tips you like from the shop and ask them to put them on.

Ugh, i know its not nessesarily the exhaust per say... but three bolts just sheared right off, which means that the whole thing is obviously under stress... and i guess its just a matter of time before it happens again. There's also this vibration i can now hear coming from the exhaust.. so theres another thing to worry about (i know its most likely just a loose hanger or something, i had that problem with my old exhaust). I'll probably take it to another shop and see what they say... i don't really trust that "mike's" mufflers anymore.
