I am thinking about removing the cat on my 02 3.8 camaro, but i have heard that this will make it sound ricier (i have the flowmaster 80 cat back). would it sound better if replaced the cat with a resonater?

      Re: removing cat

It will give you alot more rasp, if you put a resonator or a fiberpack *common drop in replacements* it will take most of that back out.

      ***********************************************
High flow cats are still cats, and when you engine has moisture in it from cold days, you drip that water looking stuff out your exhaust well its really Hydrochloric Acid, and that eats through your new expensive cat-back system *even if its stainless* and yes I know it takes awhile, but a good point.

Actually there has been many arguements about what is worse for the enviroment the hydochloric acid being dripped all over the place for the few months, or the change of extra gas fumes from no cat.

You know with your car tuned in very nicely and really good spark, you will have next to no emissions to start with.

I gutted my cat on my 3.4. It actually sounded better with my 80 series. But we all know 3.4's sound better than 3.8's.

I had a high flow on my 02 3.8, then i gutted it. Sounded horribble when i gutted it. then i through on a dynomax bullet, and it sounded better than with the highflow cat.

3.4's you can throw a muffler on with stock piping and they sound good, but not on a 3.8. but a 3.8 with a full 3in exhuast sounds better than a 3.4

                Re: removing cat

I was thinking about removing my cat on my 3.4 and replacing it with just some piping. I was wondering if it is a 3 in inlet and a 2 1/4 outlet on the cat? I think that is what I was told. Is there a noticable hp increase if you remove it? Does it throw a code at all?
