  • cat question.

ok i live where i dont actually have emissions... so i can remove the cat and not even worry about all the pollution crap.. could i just get a pipe to replace the cat and not worry about compuer codes or anything? where would i get a pipe to replace it? could i just go to a muffler shop and get a "test tube"? or what would you reccomend?

yes you can do that, i did the same, jus take it too a muffler shop tell em you want to ditch your cat and they'll put a straight pipe in its place, cost me $75, but it will throw a code, ses light will be on, mines on, but im not worried about it because i know its just the cat or lack thereof, it will be louder and a bit more raspier up top, but i noticed a difference performance wise in acceleration and top end

since mine is a 1993 will it still throw a code? i talked to the muffler shop and they said that they cant do it but they can make me a pipe with flanges. does anyone know the sizes on a stock pipe near the cat and the flange sizes?

problem is, the light will alreayd be on if something else goes wrong. so you dont already know. you can get an o2 sim. and the light will go off.

no cat will be louder and raspyer. i know on the 3.8 the cat in 3" and 2.25" out. but you have a 3.4, im 99% its 2.5" and 2.25 out. just get a high flow cat, it'll sound better and flow almost as good, and if you have the stock exhuast ditching the cat isnt going to do much. id save up for a cat and cat back, then just do that.

true true, but i geuss im just risking it by leaving the SES light on....and hopeing nothing else is triggering it

so say i were to go with a full exhaust system then, like a 2.5 or a 3" full. should i get headers, or would they really make that much of a difference? do they make headers for a/c and all that fun stuff to still bolt on.. i know the muffler shop will put them on but i dont really want to spent 1000 on an exhaust system. i did on my truck i had and it blew up... not 1000 but a good 500+ on it. it is hard to find headers though.. pace setter makes good ones but i have heard nothing about the RKS sport ones.. i dont even think they make them for 3.4L's.

pacesetter headers are fine, and yes, with headers you can keep your A/C and power steering and everything. i dont know why your truck blew up, but im sure the exhuast had nothing to do with it. headers wont make that big of a difference on the cars with tubular manifolds ( newer 3.8's) but on your 3.4 it'd help, and sound alot better too.

my truck blew up i think because i sucked a valve... i had some issues with it too.. but pacesetters would be good on the 3.4.. and i believe that the muffler shop can put them on for me too.. so i will do that thanks for the help..
