hi im at the point where im buying an intake and i dont know whether or not the go with the k&n or the SLP cold air intake. I have a 96 and I was wondering if any of you have had these on their 3.8's and know which one is better? I read the evaluations - but both said were very good so now im asking from personal expereicne with it. thanks. price doesn't matter as much as performance/sound. so let me know!

Yes the sound will change you'll get a gurgle and sucking sound on startup which is enhanced with an exhaust.
I ran the SLP I found it a better fit than the K&N, and it is also metal instead of hard plastic.
It has 2 smaller filters instead of 1 larger one like the K&N if that is a consideration.

i bought a cheap 20$ cone filter made by "power adder" whoever that it, and a intake tube that can change directions, its some sort of plastic but doesn't burn on the end connected to throttle body, and put them on myself making a hole for that sensor and taped up the remaining hole(s) even though i can run without it. 40 bucks total

Hey my names Kris and im also looking into a new intake. however Ive only seen the type that go toward the left drivers side... Im looking for one that goes stright out, or one that goes down to pick up air... I hate the cheep-o I baught a year ago, I dont like how it works off the stock plastic "pipe" and getts pinched between the computers and the radiator...!!!
Any ideas??

Re: k&n or slp for 3.8L 5spd?
Both cai's have about the same power gains.
SLP however is a little more expensive but has dual filters and black powercoating which makes this system more attractive.
K&n is basically an ordinary cai.
if you are on a budget check out the intakes on ebay.. not the cheap ones but the full cold air intakes. such as this one..

This is the system i am installing soon ~$90
