GM dealer idiots or not?!?!?

ok so after I got a diagnostic run yesterday at GM they told me the reason my SES light is on is because of my high flow cat !?!? This makes no sense to me, they told me its not flowing right, I told them the cat was less then 8 hours old, SES lights been on for a couple weeks! They told me $900 and something dollars to put a GM factory replacement!!!!!! They said the cat was the reason I got the P0142 code and that it was backing up the exhaust. This sound like total crap to me but I need to make sure. Can ya'll tell me what it sounds like to you, legit or crap.

they also told me I need a new fuel pump which i don't doubt that, have had a hard time starting car recently.

the high flow cat would put the ses light on so if your eally want to get rid of that and save money just go buy a o2 sim and call it day..no more light

that code could have easily been set by the old one but they also have the ability to see when it was set and your new high flow could have reset it itself.

I 2nd the O2 sim. Usually a SES is expacted after a high flow cat or headers.

ok I've calmed down now, I had a bad day and GM only made it worse. i wasn't freakin out over the cat problem as much as the fact they wanted $900 to install a factory replacement. A cat take 30 mins to weld in and I know a cat doesn't cost that much so what the heck were they charging so much for?

the thing is that you are not aware of, is that GM doesn't sell just the cat since it requires welding. what GM sells, is the y-pipe and cat as one piece. don't be mad of the dealership, its not something they can control. I'm assuming your over like 8yr or 80K miles right? cause if not, your cat will be covered under warranty. that is a federal emissions law. also, were did you get your cat? if it was a muffler shop, they may have put a used, faulty one on just cause they think they can get away with it. go back and find out more info like what your back pressure was.
