This is a review of the 2.5 inch Flowmaster 80 series muffler. My car is a 1996 Pontiac Firebird with the Y87 performance package and an automatic transmission. It is completely stock except from the muffler back.
I bought this from my local muffler shop called Custom Exhaust. The muffler was $122 dollars. The labor and custom made pipes were $77. I just had him make 30 degree slash cuts on the ends of the pipes instead of messing with tips.
I will start off by saying that this muffler sounds 1000 times better outside of the car. Inside it doesn't sound very good in my opinion. It loses all of its rumble that makes it sound like a v8. Outside on the other hand it sounds excellent, even at full throttle (it sounds like a v8, I've had many people comment on it sounding like a v8 as well so its not just my opinion). There is almost no rasp at all. There is only rasp for a fraction of a second when the car is shifting at full throttle. Other than that theres no rasp to be heard. Also, when there is rasp its very quiet. Its noticeable yes, but I wouldn't call it ricey at all. I never rev it above 3500 rpms in neutral so I don't know what the rasp sounds like when its not in gear.
I will post a soundclip soon and update this post. I might also throw in a picture just so you know what it looks like.
