  • exhaust too loud..

okay guys got the flowmaster 80 on today with 3inch pipe and a magnaflow high flow cat.. but it is wayyy too loud gives me a horrible headache to even drive it 10 min. down the road! i need something to make it quiet and not lose performance.. i lost a little torque be putting this set up on so if i added another cat would it help out backpressure and make it quieter it needs to be wuit a bit quieter so would i be better orr running a inline muffler or another high flow cat what will help quiet this down thanks guys...

does it sound a little like a v8 not a z28 type v8 I mean just a regular v8 because I am getting one in about a week or so

Using two cats prob isn't a good idea. You could put a bullet muffler on
        the I-pipe.

Or you could use some sound deadening material and cover the trunk/hatch
        area.

Eric, it sounds exactly like a v8 at everything but high rpms in neutral or when shifting. I wrote a small review on it here: http://forum.camarov6.com/showthread.php?t=67907. Put it this way, I heard one at a car auction (a 80 series with everything else on the car stock) and it sounded so good that I went to my local exhaust shop and ordered one the same day. I consider good for a v6 to be midly deep and v8 sounding. You'll love it except for may the rasp in higher rpms in neutral. But, seriously that isn't very loud especially when you are in gear.

thanks now I know I am definetly gonna get it the mechanic told me all this you are telling me but I thought maybe he was trying to just make money all of this is gonna cost me 325 for everything he told me not to add a cutout to it because my car needs a certain amount of back pressure do you think those flat z28 tips will help out the sound or should I keep it like that

it sounds nothing like a v8 sounds liek it is coming right out of the ****ing heads lol i am taking it to get it checked and make sure there are no leaks

also why a bullet muffler would be better than a cat?

                Not as restrictive

Do what you think will work, but the idea of two cats just doesn't
                sound good to me.

i am not 2nd guessing you i was just wondering what your exact theory was.. i really don't think the ristriction will hurt much cause i lost torque cause its so open now so either a muffler or a cat will work honestly i am more worried about making it quieter than anything else not worth the headaches litterly

on my vr4 i am running 3inches from the turbos back no cat into an Apexi N1 exhaust its loud but nothing liek this granted the vr4 is only a 3.0 not a 3.8 and the 2 turbos will muffle the exhaust some also.. its no where near this loud

I put the exact same setup on my 95 3.4 - awful. I got rid of the cat and put on an 18" Red Devil glas-pak resonator. Much better but still way to raspy - head ache city when top down at highway speed. Got rid of 80 series & put on DynoMax muffler - perfect. Great sound, good low end torque & excellent top end. If you have before & after cat O2 sensors, you will have to put a sim behind the resonator. I would try the DynoMax first with the cat & see what you get - might be ok - I'm an old fart so wanted a little more mellow.

Well there ya go, just slap a turbo on it and call it a day. haha

I guess you could call a couple of exhaust shops and see which
one they think is the better way to go.

DynoMax Super Turbo 17739 - bolt-on replacement for the 80 Series. I think it'll do the job - should be about $70.00 at any parts store.

Not at all - but remember I have a glas-pak resonator in front instead of a cat. Has a great rumble at idle and sounds good right up to mid 5's.
