  • Yea ... so i'm an idiot.

Just call me the goldilocks of exhausts. When i bought my car i had stock 2 1/4 piping and a flowmaster on there. Sounded nice enough, but wasn't really v. loud. So i upped the ante to 3" and bought the hooker cat-back.. but to my suprise i found it wasn't much different... infact most people didn't realize that i'd changed my exhaust at all! So that had to go as well, although again it sounded nice enough. So just this week i had a guy bend me up a 2.5" catback with a glasspack on it. I figured it'd flow well, and would be louder than the hooker. Unfortunately i was right...

Car is reeeeally loud now... ridiculously loud... too loud. You see a lot of posts to this nature, but at least the loud mouth and TSP rumbler sound good. The monstrosity on the underside of my car has such a drone its given me a migraine

So needless to say its going to go, infact i've already ordered its replacement from summit: a flowmaster 80 series with 3' piping. I see a lot of people on teh board have them, and i heard a sound clip which i really liked. So hopefully this one will be "just right".

dude, that totally blows. guess you havent had any luck when it comes to exhaust. Moving on to the flowmasters i see.. i dont know man hopefully you'll be satisfied with this, i dont think i would be. I would probably get an edelbrock, magnaflow or even the mufflers from summit before i get flows. Good luck tho..

It might be more to your taste than mine, but I didn't like the 80 series, so I switched to the 40 Series and couldn't be happier.

I think that is what he had originally.

do you still any of the previous exhuasts? where's the glasspack located? id just swap it out for something first. glasspacks dont do much "muffleing" at all, but if you have parts of your old exhuast just swap out the glasspack for something else, no point in ordering a whole new system. ive heard mangaflow before and maybe thats what your looking for. it was louder than the flowmaster i heard ( besides kristen's car) and wasnt annoyingly loud.

No, they put on all new piping and removed the old stuff. All i have of the hooker is the muffler, which is currently muffling my trunk. The glasspack itself is located under the car, after the S pipe, so you could only really replace it with another glasspack or a straight pipe. Either way tho, the parts are already ordered, so :p

I heard the soundclip of the 80 series and it sounded bad ***. If i don't like it i'll simply get something else, no biggy. I've already thrown hundreds of dollars at the *** of my car, a couple hundred more will be no problem :o

do you still have your stock cat?

id change it out for a high flow.

i have the flowmaster american thunder (80s series muffler iirc) catback and a carsound/magnaflow high-flow cat. i think it sounds great. not too loud, and a pretty low growl.

ive read 3.4ls sound better than 3.8ls though.

alright, i understand your system now i think, you have NO muffler just a glasspack?seems like your pretty set on getting a flowmaster, but magnaflow isnt expensive and sounds nice too. id go with the magnaflow over the flowmaster, but its just personal prefrence. if you still have the hooker, put that on. do you still have the stock cat? you could even use the glasspack in place of the cat to get more volume with the hooker. and header's will make it deeper and add some volume to it.

High flow cats aren't legal here in cali unfortunately :(

But yea, from what i've heard the magnaflows are pretty good... but i can't seem to find a clip of one. I guess if i don't like the flowmaster, i'd probably switch to that.

im not really sure where the negative press about flowmasters originates from.

a friend of mine rips on them all the time.

i dunno, to me they sound great and gave a huge boost in performance.
