i am considering buying a whisper air lid. i mean i see alot of people here with it, so im assuming it must be good, but what exactly does it do? So before i buy it im just wondering how much of a gain in horsepower and fuel mileage i should expect to see. atleast before i spend money on it.

Re: whipser air lid?
all it is is a stock lid that is a little higher, and is smooth on the inside instead of having those "fins"
People say that they you will feel a bit more throttle response, but you probably wolnt notice any HP or MPG gains, if you do they will be minimal.

Taking that tool and cracking off all the fins and obstacles on that lid.
The tool can be bought at a swap meet as I did for less than $4.
Break off everything that can slow air.Phil

Re: whipser air lid?
A whisper lid is alot better than a shaved lid.
you guys are forgetting that the stock lid has those 2 huge air silencers, fins inside everywhere, and the intake port of it is very small.
On a whsiper lid there is no silencers it's just straight through, the intake hole is the same size as the throttle body, and there's no fins on it.
I used to have the shaved lid, noticed a tad difference, but it still had the air silencers. Once I got the lid I noticed a huge difference in sound "you could finally here it breathing" and power...

Re: whipser air lid?
Deleting the silencer is really what gives you the most of your gains. Yes, I did notice a little improvement in mid rpm acceleration and also the tone of the exhaust got a little better.1998 M5 3.8 Mystic Teal Camaro<br />Flowmaster exhaust, Pacesetter headers, 3\" cat, 3\" S-pipe, whisper lid, ram air, Spec Stage 1 clutch, Poly Trans mount, Walbro 255LPH.
