Re: replacing muffler tough to get off.
Try heating the pipe up with a torch. Get it nice and hot and turn the pipe or muffle to see if it loosens up. If that fails, spray the coupling ~heavily~ with WD40, let it soak for about an hour and then try turning the muffler. Basically, you want to break the seal that the pipes have. Once the seal is broken, getting the muffler off isn't too much harder.sigpic

Re: replacing muffler tough to get off.
^i wouldnt do that. if your not replacing the piping going into the muffler you run the risk of screwing up the pipe. try what hockeyman said. soak it in WD-40 or maybe some PB blaster. let it soak and the take a rubber mallet to it. it should knock it loose and because its a rubber mallet it wont dent up any of your exhaust'99 Camaro Y87 M5 T-tops

Re: replacing muffler tough to get off.
The clamps that held my muffler on were so tight that they actually crimped the pipes together, so even after I cut the clamps off, it was impossible to pull the pipes apart. I ended up just cutting it off because I was planning on replacing more than just the muffler anyway.Rebuilding the engine... Building a custom front end... T-top conversion... Custom rear hatch..

Re: replacing muffler tough to get off.
I have a NAPA store close by. They sell a band clamp. Many diesel trucks use this for their chrome stacks. It is made of a stainless steel band about 3" wide. When you tighten this clamp, it makes a great seal and does not put crimps in your pipe or muffler. I used these 8 years ago when I installed the high flow cat and cat back. Last year I had to take the exhaust apart to replace the fuel pump. The pipe came out of the muffler with no torch or liquid penetrant.
However, they do cost about $7.00 each but well worth it.
