  • flowmaster muffler numbers

hello I have a 2000 3.8 firebird a4 with the w68 package and factory dual exhaust, and I am wanting to put a flowmaster muffler on it.(yes I know I won't get any performance gain, but I just need it to sound a little meaner)
    questions:

    1. Is there a direct replacement of the stock muffler in the 40 series?
    2. Is there a direct replacement of the stock muffler in the 80 series?
    3. What is the part number for the 40 series?
    4. What is the part number for the 80 series?
    5. Is there a pitch difference in the 40 and 80 series?(basically which one is deeper, I already know the 40 is louder)
    6. Is it better to clamp or weld the new muffler in?

Thanks for the help guys. I have been dragging my feet for too long on this. Now I have the cash and I need to make the bird sound a lil nicer before the summer is over.

    Re: flowmaster muffler numbers

I dunno about any numbers man but i went with a flowmaster 80 series with 2 and a half inch pipe with the same diameter tips and it sounds so mellow and throaty its ridiculous. just get the muffler and tail pipes and leave the stock pipe from cat to muffler on the car. Oh yea, be sure to get a one inlet two outlet muffler.

        Re: flowmaster muffler numbers

go to flowmastermufflers.com the 80 series is the only direct replacement, the 40 series is dual out, but both outlets are on one side. The part numbers will depend on which size pipe you want to use, and do like burna said, get the exhaust tips and pipes.

Welds will last longer with less problems, but clamps are better if you plan on doing more to the exhaust, or if you change your mind alot like me.

            Re: flowmaster muffler numbers

I went to jegs.com and the I can't find the muffler that I need. The only flowmaster i can find that is close is the 80 series, but the inlet and outlets are both 2.5........my stock is 2.25 correct? so this one wont fit??? here is the link

Am I not looking in the right place?
