  • New collector gasket sealing idea

Ok, I have had trouble keeping my collector gaskets from leaking with the wonderful RKSport headers. Ive tried coubling up paper gaskets, using copper gaskets and they all hold up pretty good until I put them under high load then I can bigen to hear the tick tick tick. Im not 100% sure its coming from the collectors, it may be the EGR or a rocker tap, but it sounds pretty close to a gasket leak.

Anyways, the idea is that im going to coat the entire area where the two pipes meet up with aluminum foil and put high temp sealant all around it and under the foil. If this doesnt stop the leak nothing will

ok so I coated both the collector joints and the EGR joint with copper sealant and aluminum foil, so we will see how they turn out in terms of warping and such. When I first started it up after waiting for the sealant to cure my leak was gone, no more ticking, however, after 10 minutes of driving I could smell something burning, I dont know if its the foil or the sealant or maybe it was the zipties I placed on the foil to try to keep it from warping. But the important thing i will look for is whether or not any kind of shrinking and expanding occur. Ill keep u updated.

After heating up and cooling down numerous times, aluminum foil becomes very brittle and begins falling apart like wet cardboard paper.

You're better off just having the coupler welded at a shop.

that is probably right. my question to you is that if i decide to go forced induction somewhere down the line will the headers being welded to the y pipe effect the placement of either the turbo or any other components that come with FI......
