  • Cheap direct-fit cat...

Well my cat is clogged, so I need a new one. My dad wants to get direct-fit so theres no hassle on installation. Autozone wants $250, Advanced Auto Parts wants $300 something. I don't want to spend this much. Are there any cheap direct-fit cats? Also, how hard is it to install a universal cat?

only direct fit is the OEM one, so unless you get one from one of the stores you mentioned or a junk yard your going to have to do some work. stock cat-back exhuast im assuming right? your "Y" pipe is 3" and the rest is 2.25",theres aftermarket cats that come in 3" in/out, 2.5" in/out and even smaller. you MIGHT find one thats 3" in and 2.5" out but i know you wont find one thats 3" in and 2.25" out. you can get a 3" in and a 2.5" out and then just get a 2.5" to 2.25" reducer and that'll work.

tell him its more hassle to come up with $300 then it is to buy a $55 cat from summitracing.com and pay an exhaust shop less than $100 to put it on, that is what they do ya know.....exhaust work

yea i got a universal magnaflow cat for like 50-60 bucks..wasnt charged because i was doin the whole exhaust.. but to weld that up shouldnt be more then 70 bucks...plus its a better cat then what ya would get as an oem replacement

the way i look at it is, they both have to be welded on.. ones no more work then the other

I have been looking at high flow cats lately and MagnaFlow has a direct fit for the 3.4 for about $120. I am not sure if they make one for the 3800's though. Just see what you can find on the net.

Well, my dad finally opted to get a universal fit. We got some cheapo Walker cat from Advance Auto Parts, thats fine by me, as long as my car is driveable by this weekend. And it came with a 5yr warranty, so I'll clog this one just to get another ha.
