  • cutout, catback, both?

ok so i dont know a whole lot about cars, just what i like and an idea of what i want. I've got a stock 2000 camaro 3.8l and I want to get some exhaust work done along with some other things. I don't want it to be really loud atleast not all the time and I was wondering if a cutout is meant to work with the stock exhaust or with an aftermarket catback? I have pretty much decided that I want to get a Magnaflow catback exhaust system but then again I really like the idea of the electric cutouts. Is it worth it to get both or should I just stick with the magnaflow?

You can install a cut-out on a stock or aftermarket exhaust. It is a device that you open on occasion to make the exhaust way less restrictive say when you are at the drag strip. You wouldn't keep it open all the time, unless you wanted to either scare some people or get a ticket. It is very loud. If you like the Magnaflow cat-back, then get that as well as the cut-out.

magnaflow is pretty quite. yes you can use a cut-out on the stock exhuast.id say, for your needs get the magnaflow and see how you like it. if you want it louder ( alot louder ) then get a cut-out afterwards.

edit: depending on the place ment of the cut-out changes how loud it's going to be. its going to be loud of course, but it'll be quiter right before the "over the axle pipe" than if you put it before the cat.

On a 99 stock firebird does anyone know what size cutout I would need if i put it right after the cat. I have been thinking about one for a while but never know what size i need.

Putting it right after the cat would be difficult, as there is a curved "S" pipe there. Put it right after the S pipe, in the straight "intermediate" or "I" pipe and you'll be good. I believe the stock pipe size is 2.25", so that's the size of cutout you want.

if you just look for periodic loud, get a cutout.
