  • 3" or 2.5"

I found an auction on ebay for a borla pro xs muffler with a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outs. I heard 3" piping from the cat may be a little too much and i might loose some power. It is a good price, for $50 more i could get a 2.5" in dual 2.5" outs. Will i really be loosing any power? I mean it still has to go through the manifolds and cat..unless i get a straight pipe..

I could also get 2.5" piping and get a 2.5" to 3" adapter to run it to the muffler right? I wouldn't loose any power this way would i?

    Re: 3" or 2.5"

what happens when you get bigger exhaust is your torque curves moves up the power band. in the case of a 3" exhaust, it will build up 500rpms higher than before. you do not lose any torque and you gain hp. all you really lose is a little of the grunt you feel. its all in your mind. the big difference between the two sizes is the sound it produces. If you want 2.5" exhaust, you can get a reducer.

i would assume the 3" is a deeper tone? Also, does anyone know how much i would be spending on pipes after i bought the muffler? and any rough ideas how much it would cost to get installed? thanks,
