I recently installed a whsiper lid on my 2000 Camaro A4. I took it out for a drive after the install and noticed a good gain in throttle response and pull through higher rpms. But I'm worried because after going WOT from 60-70mph it backfired really loud when I let off. It did it every time I made a pull from 60-70mph or up. I have 3in" Borla Exhaust and I have the smallest opening adjustable plate in right now. Do I have an engine problem or is this backfire normal with the exhaust and intake? The bang is really loud, loud enough it scared me the first time it happened. There is no SES light on and the car never did it before the intake lid was added.

Re: After Airlid Install...
I'm gonna say...don't worry about it yet. Let your ECU get used to the new part and then if it still backfires, you can worry about it. Running rich is what causes a backfire (unburnt gas goes into the exhaust and then ignites), and your computer may just be dumping some extra fuel into the engine to be on the safe side while it relearns for the lid (running lean is way more dangerous than running rich).1998 M5 3.8 Mystic Teal Camaro<br />Flowmaster exhaust, Pacesetter headers, 3\" cat, 3\" S-pipe, whisper lid, ram air, Spec Stage 1 clutch, Poly Trans mount, Walbro 255LPH. Re: After Airlid Install...
back fireing isnt the best thing in the world, but give it some time and just dont make any more hard pulls and maybe it wont do it.

Re: After Airlid Install...
try opening the plate up...cuz it sounds like your building too much backpressure inside the exhaust and its detonating...use a better flowing plate and go try it again...and if the problem persists...come back..
