  • Just installed the SLP CAI

    I have a few questions.

First, up until now, I was under the impression that there was some area near the radiator that somehow manufactures cold air, which the CAI harvests. But now I think the way they work is that the radiator, against which the stainless piece of duct is installed, conducts cold temperatures into the stainless steel, thereby cooling the air as it passes through the duct. Is that correct?

If so, I can't imagine that the air would be dramatically cooler than the normal intake air. I mean, maybe by a few degrees, but would it really make THAT much difference?

Secondly, are the performance gains from a CAI seen generally in the low end or top end?

I'm just a little concerned because I haven't noticed a difference, a REAL difference, since I installed it. I think I can hear the engine breathing a little deeper, but I thought that'd be more a product of the whisper lid than the CAI.

the SLP kit, harvests air drawn up by the underground spoiler, it ramps air up into the duct work and down the throat of your car...in that respect it is more ram-air really.

The gains are minimal but occur at higher speeds, or rpms, when you are traveling fast, more air is being "RAM-med" into your intake.

But without the mod, wouldn't air be getting rammed into the intake through the hole in the front anyway? The hole that you have to plug up with rubber gasket when you put the CAI on?

yes but all the little twists and turns and bends, changes of directions, causes the airflow to be slowed

What twists and turns that the Whisper lid wouldn't correct?

I have a 98 camaro by the way.

that inlet in the front you are talking about does not provide ram air, If the kit you are talking about includes the duct work it should be pretty easy to see how it works. the enuder ground spoiler ramps air up to your radiator. With that ductwork in place in then makes its way to the air box as well now.

Well, it wasn't what I thought it was, but if I get more high end beef, that's good, because that's what I really need.
