wow you did get ripped...got mine removed for $40.

The fact that you had a cutout installed has no bearing on it: it doesn't make a difference if they replace it with a straight pipe or cutout or whatever, they're still welding something in place. Same amount of work.

So I can take off my cat and replace it with a cutout. What about the 02 sim will I still need one and what kind of sound are we looking at with it open

          Re: Removing catalytic converter?

It will be very raspy up top, but sound mean down below. With the cutout placed below the seats you will feel a lot of vibration, but it's tolerable (at least to me.) You still might want to get an 02 sim to keep from throwing codes.

I still have not thrown any codes after a day and I do NOT have an 02 sim (knock on wood.) Perhaps that's because I've had some tuning done though.

and when he says loud he means one block away your ears WILL be ringing. the ground will shake at idle outside the car. i started mine up chaning my exhuast, run open headers around the block and i wanted to cry. rasps starts at 1100RPMS ( maybe slightly exaggerated)

is that bad or what I said its gonna be electric so I have the option to open it and close it when I wanna. If I get the cutout is there any need for headers or what

                  Re: Removing catalytic converter?

yeah i didn't take into account the cat delete AND cutout: that would probably sound WAY too loud.

you don't need headers for a cutout. placing the cutout further toward the rear would help keep the noise down a little, although I can't tell you what it would sound like.

                    Re: Removing catalytic converter?

Im asking will headers help the sound with a cutout I have a flowmaster 80 series and I like the sound but now I want louder I know its not gonna sound like a v8 but at least my car will be different from a lot of v6 camaros. People are surprised when I tell them my car is a v6 when I start it up. I just figure if I add a whisper lid cutout and headers then I will have even a nicer sounding car

                      Re: Removing catalytic converter?

headers will make it sound better, sure. Will they make it sound good with open cutout? Probably not.

                        Re: Removing catalytic converter?

thanks for the help but thats what Im gonna do but its not like I am gonna have the cutout open regular it will be open only when I run nitrous because I have my stock pipes and do not wanna change to 3 inch pipes and I know thats what it will take for me to run extra power on my car

and also you can change between it half open full open and closed i would make sure you have intake but i use half open just close it all the way and hit the button once yup (vice versa) it will be half of what your exhaust used to sound like and have dumped.. not too bad
