ok well my egr has a leak. i don't just want to fix it. i would like to do something different. i've read a little about people putting little filters on it. and then others do the block off plate.

i kinda like the idea of the filter. what do i have to do to set that up?

      errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrg.

aka EGR, but you were close enough, and I am not familiar with a filter system for it.

        Re: erg

you dont need a filter system. just 2 block off plates either homemade or zzp.
You gotta block off the female part of the driver's side exhaust manifold real good or it will leak.
Then block off the egr female part of the upper intake manifold (its right above the thermostat housing). Or you could put a filter on it like some idiots and have hot engine bay air sucked in. With the EGR delete you will gain a few hp and not have to worry about carbon again

          Re: erg

i read about a filter system on ls1tech, but it looks like their egr system is really different from ours.
im either going to do a blockoff plate, or just get a new gasket and try to fix it.... we'll see. i think i jinxed you! haha.

            Re: erg

I would just do the block off, also I've never heard of a filter setup for it.

              Re: erg

i'm sure that taking off the E R G aka EGR will throw the calibration of the MAF off a little. Nothing to worry about

would you want that much air being sucked in anyways? it's not being read by the maf sensor or anything... I'm just going to block mine off.

slow6 how do u know that u get some hp out of it? do u have to block of both of them to get hp out of it? i heard that u dont get any hp out of it just helps keep tb clean and not get that cabin build up and if u block both of them will it throw a code?

                        Re: erg

yes it will throw the egr malfunction code... I can tell you the code if you want.
You will get less than 9hp from it. Loose 1 MPG.
Yes, you should block both of them off.

My friend does a procedure which blocks off all the heat that radiates from the engine to the intakes. You have to open up the lifter valley to do it though.

cabin build up? you mean carbon build up.
Yes, the egr is the reason you get carbon build up in your engine and its a
reason that an intake gasket can eventually fail

                            Re: erg

i'm not exactly sure how much hp you would get. I would guess from 5-7hp
my friend for sure got 9hp on a dyno from removing the EGR
and doing that lifter valley mod I just talked about.

You can get someone to tune your car, get a mail-order tune, or buy a real tuner package yourself.

I'm leaving my EGR on until it dies. The EGR shuts off when your at WOT, but your intakes are still HOT
