  • Help!!!!!!!! with pasecetter headers.

    Hi.

I really need your guys and girls help. I have a 01 Camaro, and I'm trying to install this "RETARDED" pacesetter headers for a long time. Since I got this headers I been dealing with problems. For starters, I had problems with my reach not having enough space to retighten the spark plug, but thanks to Kuttman advice I solved that problem. Now as I'm finishing installing the passenger side header. My MSD cables doesn't have enough space to get to the spark plug do to the piping of the headers. My question is for you guys and girls is what shall I do with this problem? I'm thinking of cutting down the MSD wires so it could fit in to the spark plug, Or just return the defective headers back to Summit racing so I could get new ones. Please help me with this!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks.

well i've had the same headers on for a few years now. and i just needed new spark plug wires so i decided to get the msd wires. it was hard but i got them on. and as i was looking at them i noticed that they were on the header under neath burning. so i went to autozone and got the accell 90* spark plug wires. and you can cut them to make them what ever size you want. and they have the elbow boots on each end which is perfect for us with the headers.

when i first put on my headers i burned 3 wires from just the heat coming off those headers since there is no heat shield. so getting the 90* is a good idea. good luck

Thanks Kristen for the advice. Here is a stupid question what is a elbow boots? Also did you need to cut the wires to make it fit? I really appreciate your help.

well the wires are really east to put together.

ok you know how on one end of the msd wires it's about 4 inchs and straight. and then the end is shaped like an L. that is what both ends will be. it's better since you can move everthing out of the way from the headers.

yeah, i needed new wires also. as kristen said, you need the 90* ones. harris speed works (who installed my headers) just ziptied the wires out of the way to make sure they dont come into contact with the headers and burn.

For installation it cost in between 200-300 bucks. A good tech can do it in like 4 to 6 hours.

are you talking about installing the headers or the wires?

i say do both yourself. the headers should take about6 hours if that. depending on how well you know your car.

the wires just took me 15 mins the other day. again the time depend on how well you knowyour car

all you have to do is get to the intake manifolds right? Undo the bolts to those and then undo the y-pipe from the manifolds...I dont have a torch or a saw in order to cut the pipe out to install the y pipe...what do you think i should do Kristen?

i say do it yourself. even if you have to buy a tourqe wrench, use a towel around it to keep it looking brand new. and then return it. or your might even be able to rent one from autozone.

you should spend about 15 bucks and buy a haynes manaul. it will help you out so much.

                    good luck

Thanks Kristen for your help I installed the passenger side header last night. If you or anyone else cold help me with the driver side headers installation I would really appreciated. My question is how do you install the EGR to the header? Also what do you do with the oil level stick so I could put it back in its place?

Thanks for everyone that is helping me with this because I'm doing the installation all by my self.

Some of the difficulties discussed here are one reason Camaro Performers magazine chose Dawson Racing Headers. They installed easily and have adequate clearance for both spark plug changes and straight plug boots.

I can never remember this forum's rules about posting the names of manufacturers so, if you need contact info for Dawson Racing Headers contact me privately.
