That's pretty much the jist of it. If I were you, I'd try and drop the cone down into the fender area, so it gets some cooler air. Remember Cooler air=+ HP!

yeah i'm gonna make the hose after the 45 degree bend longer than the pic, i just made it short for that so i could draw the filter. I'm also thinking about the LT1 underbody scoop, but no one replied to my previous post about whether or not a few washers on the gaurds underneath would do the trick..

i used the flexible plastic expandable intake tubing, made by spectre i believe, from autozone. its $20 and fits in that spot, i know which one your talking about as i have a 96 as well. it came with two plastic-y coupling things and used one for the throttle body, damn it was hard to get on though, and the other along with a c clamp ring for the filter. i also made a hole in the tubing for the air temp sensor thats on the flat air box then taped around it for no air leaks. cheap, works, and on quiet days is loud but the tape part looks a lil ghetto but hey this intake has the same basic principle as any cai. oh and yes relocate the filter below the spot where it's at now, you will have to remove some factory air boxes and such to do so and the filter will just be hanging. worked for me and was cheaper
